Baylor Off and Running

The 18th-ranked Baylor Bears come into this Big 12 Conference opener with two straight wins on the season including a 98-79 win over Cornell in their final non-conference game of the season. The Bears were led by Ja'Kobe Walter who scored a team-high 23 points and added a career-best nine rebounds in the win. Baylor hit 55% of their field goal attempts including 14-of-31 from three-point range. Walter was helped by teammates RayJ Dennis and Yves Missi in the victory. Dennis had 18 points and six assists while Missi had a career-high 16 points to go along with five rebounds.

The Bears have been arguably the best offensive team in the country to start the season. They are sixth in scoring offense this season. The Bears are also first in field goal percentage and first in 3-point shooting. They are also 10th in the nation in 3-point field goals per game. The Baylor defense has been solid as well. The team ranks 105th in the country in defensive scoring. The Bears are ranked 157th in opponent's shooting percentage and 70th in 3-point defense.

Cowboys Back in the Saddle

The Oklahoma State Cowboys have rebounded from a 3-5 start to win five straight games and now sit at 8-5 heading into Big 12 Conference play. The Cowboys took out Chicago State 75-53 on Wednesday night to close out their non-conference schedule for the season. Bryce Thompson led the way with 13 points and Eric Dailey Jr. and Javon Small each had 12 points to lead the Cowboys' offense. The story of the game was the Cowboys' defense, however. They held Chicago State to just 29% shooting from the floor and had a 43-31 advantage on the glass.

"The things that I want our guys to understand is just to embrace the opportunity and not get bogged down by the pressure of playing against great competition. I want them to enjoy it also…. I want to them to enjoy the opportunity to see what they're made of against some of the best coaches and teams and venues in the whole country." said OSU head coach Mike Boynton Jr. after the game about preparing for Big 12 play.

The Cowboys hope to carry over their win streak into Big 12 play as they get set to kick off conference play on Saturday. The Cowboys come into this matchup with the high-powered Baylor Bears with the nation's 107th-ranked scoring offense. The Cowboys are 88th in field goal percentage and 23rd in 3-point shooting. Like the Bears, OSU relies heavily on the 3-point shot, ranked 14th in 3-point field goals per game. On the defensive end, Oklahoma State is ranked 73rd in scoring defense. The Cowboys are ranked 98th in opponent's shooting percentage and 169th in 3-point defense. They are 103rd in total rebounds per game this season and the Cowboys check in at just 283rd in the country in turnovers.

Oklahoma State has played well at home this season with a record of 7-2 but they did fall to Creighton, another high-powered offense, by more than a dozen points at home earlier this season. Baylor's ability to shoot the ball so well will certainly be an issue for the Cowboys on Saturday as will the Cowboys' difficulty in possessing the basketball. Oklahoma State is ranked just 283rd in the country in turnovers per game this season and that will be an issue against a Baylor team that rarely wastes possessions. I think Baylor's ability to knock down shots from the paint and the perimeter will wear down the Cowboys and lead to a double-digit win for the 18th-ranked Bears.

This game should fly past the total in a game featuring two of the better shooting teams in the country. The Bears are the best shooting team in the nation, ranked first in field goal percentage overall and first in 3-point shooting. In addition, Baylor is 10th in 3-point field goals per game. The Cowboys are 23rd in 3-point shooting and 14th in 3-point field goals per game. Baylor is slightly above average in pace of play, ranked 142nd in the nation, and rarely turns the ball over. This one will be played in the high 70s and low 80s for each team.
