Baylor vs. Texas State: Preview and Prediction

The Baylor Bears and the Texas State Bobcats are playing each other this weekend.

Jake Spavital is the head coach at Texas State. He was a graduate assistant at Oklahoma State in 2019, West Virginia’s quarterbacks coach in 2011-12 and offensive coordinator from 2017-18.

Blake Shapen is in his first full year as the starting quarterback. He has completed 72.9 percent of his passes for 351 yards and three touchdowns.

Matt Jones is a three-star recruit from Odessa Permian High School. He was a Preseason All-Big 12 First team selection. Jones has 12 tackles, including a sack, a tackle for loss and a pass-break up.

Kordell Rodgers picked off two passes against FIU last week. He is the only player to do that in the program's FBS era.

Calvin Hill is coming off the fourth-best rushing performance in Texas State’s FBS history. He gained 195 yards against FIU last week.

Baylor's winning streak is over. The team has a better idea of what it needs to improve before the start of Big 12 play on September 24. There is still no running back rotation for the Bears.

Jake Spavital took over the Texas State Bobcats football team. He hopes to win six games this season and get into a bowl game. The team won four games last season.
