Newbury 1.50 - Rabaah e/w

This race revolves around last year's Gimcrack winner Noble Style, who is the clear pick on ratings and should benefit from dropping down in trip after shaping like a non-stayer in the 2000 Guineas on seasonal reappearance. Dropping back down to 6f should suit him perfectly, but at a juicy price, I am fascinated that Charlie Hills lets the 90-rated RABAAH take his chance in this company.

Connections could have easily found a Handicap for him off that mark, yet they want to have a crack at this LIsted assignment. Rabaah arrives here on the back of two facile wins in minor company on the all-weather, and gets thrown into deeper waters here. He looks very exciting though and has displayed a good turn of foot. If Noble Style fails to spark, then Rabaah can be the one to pounce for a minor upset. With a around a 30% strike-rate in May, Charlie Hills has his string in fine fettle at present.

Newbury 2.25 - Old Harrovian e/w

Andrew Balding and Oisin Murphy can do little wrong at present, and the unexposed OLD HARROVIAN looks worth a crack at this level after a couple of demolition jobs on the all-weather. The 4-year-old won in a 10-length romp at Wolverhampton last time out, and rates an exciting prospect heading into this tough encounter.

It is a sign of how highly he is regarded that he is now dipping his toe into Group 3 company, and despite having a fair bit to find on ratings, he looks more than worthy of his place in the line-up, and can make a real impact here.

Newbury 3.35 - My Prospero e/w

It's the big one at 3.35, and the Lockinge looks like a fantastic renewal. I think the value call could be the William Haggas trained MY PROSPERO who could easily get involved here. The 4-year-old has won three of his six starts on a racecourse, and hasn't been seen since coming third to Bay Bridge in the Champion Stakes.

He has shown some very smart form over 1m - just look at his Royal Ascot run from last year. He ran a stormer when beaten a neck by Coroebus in the St James' Palace Stakes. That form is very smart and a replication of that could easily suffice. I am not worried about him being fired up for his seasonal reappearance - he has a great record when fresh, so if he was firing on all cylinders first time out I would be far from surprised.

He goes on any ground, and the added bonus is that he is one from one over C&D  - he won his maiden here comfortably. All in all, he looks the value call with the Haggas team amongst the winners lately, and the excellent Tom Marquand likely to be in the saddle who has been riding winners for fun as of late.

Newmarket 3.50 - Air To Air e/w

David Probert and George Boughey team up for the 5-year-old AIR TO AIR who looks an each-way play here. The tongue-tie goes on for the first time, and this son of Toronado is a previous C&D winner. He is versatile in regards to underfoot requirements so all ground comes alike to him. It is worth noting that he has a good record fresh, so the 138-day absence could have done him the world of good and off a mark of 94 he is more than capable of getting involved at the business end of proceedings.

Newbury 4.45 - Polly Pott e/w

POLLY POTT showed some sparkling form as a 2-year-old, winning the May Hill as a 40/1 poke, but it was all 'bit too much' when tackling the 1000 Guineas first time out this season on her first start for the Ben Pauling team. However, she has a great chance to bounce back in this assignment now that she is dropped into calmer waters.

The really sticky ground probably didn't help her when she was down the field at Newmarket, and she should have also stripped a lot fitter for that outing. Settling into her new surroundings in the Cotswolds, Pauling always suggested that she would improve with better ground and stepping up in distance. Going up to 10f for the first time could easily unlock more improvement and she looks the value play here. Oisin Murphy comes in for the ride and she has solid each-way claims.

Uttoxeter 7.05 - Uhtred

I am going to take a chance on the Dan Skelton trained UHTRED to get back to winning ways. He was a classy sort when trained by Joseph O'Brien, but things haven't quite clicked for him in recent times for new connections.

However, the upshot is that he has now plummeted down the weights to a mark of 119, and looks absolutely lobbed in on old form. He was rated 141 back in November, so naturally could have a few pounds up his sleeve. There was plenty to like about his fast-finishing third at Ayr last month - the form of that race has worked out well. That latest effort was over 2m5f and he steps up to an extended 2m7f here. Bridget Andrews takes the ride and it wouldn't be a shock to see him add to his winning tally.
