Royal Ascot 4.20 - My Prospero

This a cracker, with 4 of the 6 potential runners being separated by just 2lb on official ratings. My preference would be for the William Haggas trained MY PROSPERO who has a lovely tune-up for this assignment when finishing fourth in the Lockinge over 1m on his latest start and seasonal reappearance.

The return to 10f is a huge boost, and he brings some smart form, albeit in defeat, to the table from his previous forays to this venue. He was beaten half a length into third by Bay Bridge on rain-softened ground in the Champion Stakes (Adayar only a nose ahead of him), and last year at Royal Ascot was involved in that pulsating finish to the St James' Palace Stakes, being beaten a neck.

One thing he has in his locker, is that he is very happy on quick ground, whereas the other protagonists would arguably be much happier on a much softer surface. This looks a belter, and My Prospero looks the value call with the excellent Tom Marquand in the saddle.

Royal Ascot 5.00 - Bless Him each-way

The Royal Hunt Cup is incredibly difficult to weigh-up, with so many unknowns surrounding draw bias and the race will pan out. So in such circumstances it may pay side with the tried and tested, and I am having a small each-way dabble on the 9-year-old BLESS HIM at a price.

The veteran has been a terrific servant to connections, and brings plenty of good course form to the table - including when winning the Britannia over course and distance back in 2017.

The tendency is for there to be plenty of pace on from the get-go, which suits this hold-up performer who once again will be ridden by Jamie Spencer, a jockey who excels over the Straight Course at Ascot. In a race that looks wide-open, Bless Him could easily be coming home with a late rattle in the closing stages and doesn't look impossibly handicapped, so gets the each-way nod from me.

Royal Ascot 5.35 - Chesspiece each-way

My antepost St Leger selection runs here, so I am looking for a bold showing from the Simon & Ed Crisford trained CHESSPIECE. This big galloping sort need every yard of 1m4f on the Knavesmire last time out in order to win, and I think he can take his form up another notch here as his stamina is drawn out to 1m6f.

I think that can unlock even more improvement and he won't be found wanting when it comes to the business end of proceedings. The yard are in fine fettle, he is versatile in regards to underfoot conditions and has recently been acquired by Goldophin.

He rates an exciting prospect who can serve it up to likely hot favourite Gregory in this encounter.
