Best Golf DFS Picks & Top Plays For Charles Schwab Challenge 2023

Grueling doesn’t even begin to describe the four-day grind that was the PGA Championship at Oak Hill. And yet, a number of A-listers are ready to tee it again and keep the party going to set up another stellar week of golf DFS and betting picks at the 2023 Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth.

The new major scheduling with the PGA moving to May means there’s no time to catch your breath, with the U.S. Open at Los Angeles Country Club now just three weeks away ahead of the British Open July 20-23 at Royal Liverpool.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is among those heading to Colonial from Rochester, where Scheffler was two shots behind Brooks Koepka for a T-2 finish alongside Viktor Hovland. Scheffler is the top-priced player this week at $11,500 – he finished runner-up at this event last year as well, falling in a playoff to Sam Burns.

Hovland is also in the field this week after his third consecutive top-10 major finish on . He’s third on the board at $10,600 just behind Tony Finau ($10,700) and ahead of Collin Morikawa ($10,400).

Jordan Spieth is also back at it after a T-29 finish at Oak Hill – he won this event in 2016 and will be looking to round back into form ahead of a crazy stretch of major championships in the coming weeks.

He’ll have to stave off a loaded field, including red hot Scottie Scheffler, a slumping Rory McIlroy, a frisky Brooks Koepka and dozens of others at what should be another thrilling major championship betting and DFS week.

Charles Schwab Challenge DFS Picks By Price

12K-9K Range

Collin Morikawa, $10,400: Morikawa didn’t do anything special at Oak Hill, but he hit the irons great and showed a tidy short game. His relative lack of pop off the tee was punishing given the course setup and wet conditions, but that shouldn’t be a problem this week at an old school layout where driving distance isn’t a major factor. Morikawa has made the cut here in each of his three prior starts, including a solo second in 2020 and a T-14 in 2021. He’s first on Tour in Strokes Gained Approach this season, and he should take a lot of positives with his play last week. We like him to win this week at Colonial, and we definitely want him in the lineup.

Justin Rose, $9,300: Rose is coming off a stellar week at the PGA Championship, where he finished T-9 and ranked fifth in Strokes Gained Approach – the most important factor at Colonial. He absolutely loves this golf course and missed the cut for the first time in nine starts last year. Rose won this event in 2018 and was T-3 in 2020 and the game is sharp as ever, with six top-25s and a win in his last nine starts. We expect another excellent performance this week in Fort Worth.

9K-8K Range

Denny McCarthy, $8,700: Our old friend Denny is back in the lineup, like he was frequently throughout a solid run of top-10s in the summer of 2022. He’s starting to heat up again with seven consecutive cuts made, including five top-25s. This course should be a perfect fit for his game, with an emphasis on fairways and greens. He made a lot of putts over the weekend at Oak Hill and his irons were dialed in for a T-29 finish at a brutally tough course. Colonial is definitely more his speed, and we wouldn’t be surprised if he contended over the weekend.

K.H. Lee, $8,300: Lee doesn’t have a great history here, but it’s a small sample size with two missed cuts and a T-64 in three starts. On paper, this looks like a great course for him. He’s not long off the tee but doesn’t have many weaknesses, boasting a strong all-around game that’s above-average in terms of approach and around the greens. He was T-8 at the Wells Fargo earlier this month and could definitely make some noise again at the Charles Schwab.

8K-7K Range

Harris English, $7,800: English missed the cut at the PGA Championship following a T-3 at the Wells Fargo. The iron play was solid, but he gave up way too many shots on and around the greens at an extremely tricky Oak Hill. This course suits his style of play much better, and he’s such a strong short-game player that we’re not at all concerned about the PGA. English has finished T-30 or better in five of his seven prior starts at Colonial, where he finished solo second in 2016. We like him to bounce back from that MC with a great showing this week.

Joseph Bramlett, $7,100: Bramlett didn’t qualify for the PGA Championship, so we know he’ll be well-rested coming into the Charles Schwab. He finished T-14 his last time out at the Byron Nelson and was also T-9 earlier this season at the Houston Open – something about those Texas courses. He’s not the best course fit on paper, but he’s hitting it great off the tee and the irons look sharp. We could see Bramlett as a surprise name in the mix in Fort Worth.

7K and Below

Nate Lashley, $6,900: This is a great course fit for a guy in this price range. Lashley keeps it straight off the tee and he’s an above-average irons player. He’s been dialed in the last two weeks but lost ground with his lack of distance off the tee, finishing T-27 at the Wells Fargo and T-23 at the Byron Nelson. There’s not a lot of impressive course history here with two missed cuts in four starts, but the game is on the upswing big time. Lashley has moved up from No. 350 to No. 180 in the Official World Golf Rankings over the last five months and should continue to climb with his steady play of late.

Dylan Wu, $6,600: We’re surprised to see Wu priced this low considering some of the recent results. He missed the cut in his last start at the Byron Nelson, but he was T-21 at the Wells Fargo and T-15 at the Mexico Open in his two prior starts. The 26-year-old hits it straighter than most off the tee and has been impressive with the irons lately. He’s also made the cut in nine of his last 11 events. Wu has never teed it up in this event before, but we expect him to play well and vastly exceed his price point.
