Best NHL Picks & Props for Tuesday's Frozen Frenzy (Oct 24)

All odds as of October 23rd, 2023 at DraftKings Sportsbook.

Avalanche vs Islanders Pick

One of our favorite plays on this large Tuesday slate is the Colorado Avalanche moneyline in the team’s matchup with the New York Islanders. Colorado is one of only a few remaining undefeated teams at 5-0-0 and faces a 2-1-1 Islanders team.

It’s still very early in the season, but this Colorado team looks like a true powerhouse capable of making a Cup run similar to their run in 2021. 10 different players have chipped in with a goal, including Mikko Rantanen, who has potted four.

The Avs’ special teams are also clicking at an improved rate with their power play at 27.8 percent, up from 24.7 percent during the 2022-23 season. The penalty kill sits at 95.5 percent. The Islanders enter this game with the sixth-worst penalty kill in the NHL (69.2%).

The Islanders opened the season with two straight wins before losing 5-4 in overtime to the New Jersey Devils on Friday and then falling in Buffalo on Saturday. With Colorado entering on a high, plus having taken four of the past five meetings vs NYI, look for the Avs to roll on Tuesday.

  • Pick: Avalanche Moneyline (-142)

Coyotes vs Kings Prediction

Our second favorite NHL pick for the Frozen Frenzy is the Arizona Coyotes puck line in their matchup with the Los Angeles Kings. We believe the Yotes offer solid value to stay within two goals against an LA squad that has some clear weaknesses.

The Kings have been one of the better teams at generating scoring chances so far this season, but goaltending has let them down. Tuesday’s projected starting goalie for LAK is Cam Talbot, who is 2-2-0 with a .900 save percentage and 3.03 GAA.

We love the goaltending advantage for Arizona, with expected starter Connor Ingram sporting a 1-1-0 record with a .926 save percentage and 2.02 GAA. These two teams split a two-game set in the preseason, with Ingram making 33 saves in a 5-3 victory for Arizona.

The Kings are getting home-ice advantage for this one, but they’re currently winless at Staples Center with a 0-2-1 record. The Coyotes, meanwhile, are battle-tested on the road this season, sporting a 2-2-0 mark away from Mullet Arena.

  • Pick: Coyotes Puck Line +1.5 (-142)

NHL Frozen Frenzy Best Prop Bet

In addition to the usual NHL game odds, DraftKings is offering some unique prop bets for the massive slate, including the highest-scoring game and highest-scoring team. None of the games/ teams offered in this prop have shorter odds than +800, making it great value.

Highest-Scoring Game Pick

The easiest way to make a potential pick for the “highest-scoring” game of Frozen Frenzy would be to look at the game totals. And while the Sabres vs Senators and Sharks vs Panthers are the only two games with a total of seven, we believe the Leafs vs Capitals matchup (6.5 total) offers solid value for this prop.

Leafs vs Capitals is consistently one of the highest-scoring rivalries in the NHL, with the two teams averaging 8.4 total goals in the past 10 matchups. To add to the intricacy of this pick, neither team has been getting good goaltending so far this season.

Capitals’ projected starting goalie Darcy Kuemper owns a .887 save percentage and 3.56 GAA, while Leafs’ Ilya Samsonov owns a .831 save percentage and 4.34 GAA. Toronto’s potential starter for Tuesday, Joseph Woll, has just 13 career games under his belt.

Washington is off to a miserable start this season, having managed just one win in four games. However, they are returning home where they had a better record last season vs on the road. Alex Ovechkin is in a slump, but this is a potential breakout game with him having 41 goals in 56 career games vs Toronto.
