Celtic’s second era under Brendan Rodgers begins with what should be a comfortable home win against a Ross County side that avoided relegation by the skin of their teeth last season. Celtic have managed Ange Postecoglou’s departure well, appointing a manager who knows the club and preventing Postecoglou’s signings from joining him at Tottenham.

With the exception of Jota, Celtic have pretty much kept their treble-winning team together and are odds-on favourites to make it three titles in-a-row. Celtic played Ross County three times in the league last season, winning each game, although they never managed to win by three goals or more.

However, they will undoubtedly be looking to make a statement in their opening game of the season in front of their own supporters and should run out comfortable winners.

Kyogo Furahashi to Score First

Who better than Kyogo Furahashi to open Celtic’s account for the season on Saturday? The Japanese forward was simply immense for Celtic last season, scoring an impressive 34 goals in 50 appearances in all competitions.

Kyogo scored 27 times in the league last season and opened the scoring an incredible 11 times. He was so prolific last season that he scored more than Celtic’s second and third-highest goalscorers combined. He is the man for the big occasion and is by far the most likely player to open the scoring on Saturday.

Liel Abada to Score Anytime

Liel Abada was third in Celtic’s goal scoring charts last season behind Furahashi and Jota, making him the second-highest active goalscorer at the club following Jota’s departure.

Abada scored 13 goals last season, including 10 league goals, and is good value to open his account on the opening day of the season.
The Israeli winger scored six of his ten league goals in the opening six games of the season last year and will be hoping for a similarly fast start to the 23/24 campaign.

Celtic will need him to pick up some of the goalscoring slack now that Jota has left and he is more than capable of doing so.

Celtic are going to dominate possession and territory on Saturday, regardless of the result, there is no doubt about it. The champions averaged 72.5% possession in the league last season, compared with Ross County’s average of 42.6%. Such dominance is bound to lead to opportunities and scrambles in the Ross County box.

Celtic won an average of eight corners per game in their home league games last season and it would be surprising if they didn’t at least hit that average on Saturday. There is every chance that we will see 11 corners or more in the opening game of the season.

Ross County to Receive the Most Cards

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Celtic boasted the best disciplinary record in Scotland last season, picking up 44 yellow cards and three red cards in 38 games. The fact of the matter is that Celtic were so dominant in most games that there was simply no need to foul the opposition on many occasions.

Postecoglou’s side either enjoyed the lion’s share of possession or were so far ahead on the scoreboard that they were rarely in a position to commit fouls worthy of a yellow card.

Ross County, on the other hand, picked up 63 bookings and five sending offs in 38 league games and are far more likely to be forced into yellow-card-worthy challenges on Saturday. They are likely to be starved of possession and will be forced to make tackle after tackle near their own penalty area. There is a strong likelihood that they will pick up the most cards on Saturday.
