Clemson vs. Duke pick
Week 1 of college football meets its conclusion in Durham, North Carolina when the Duke Blue Devils host the No. 9 Clemson Tigers.
Clemson is listed as a 13-point favorite on BetMGM and that is a fair point spread. This one could go either way, but I’m leaning towards Duke because its quarterback should be able to keep it in the game.
Blue Devils quarterback Riley Leonard is getting some NFL Draft hype after a good season in 2022. Leonard did it all in a 9-4 season for Duke, passing for 2,967 yards and 20 touchdowns and rushing for a team-leading 699 yards and 13 scores. The Blue Devils return 17 starters from last year, so Leonard should have enough talent around him to threaten the Tigers.
Clemson is the more talented team and will likely wind up winning this game, it just feels like 13 points is too much for it to be favored by. This is Cade Klubnik’s first road start after all and there’s no guarantee everything clicks in Week 1. Duke head coach Mike Elko is an experienced defensive mind as well, and he could disrupt Klubnik with creative coverages.
