Oddsmakers (and our team) were wrong about the Lions this past week. As 3-point favorites, Detroit should have handled the game in Chicago and walked away with a 10-3 record. Instead, they fell to a 5-8 Bears team that’s unlikely to make it to the playoffs.
What happened?
Head Coach Dan Campbell says it comes down to discipline. Detroit fell apart in the second half with just 76 yards of total offense and eight penalties over the game compared to Chicago’s four.
Jared Goff had a bad night, too. He threw two interceptions and got sacked four times. The Lions defense wasn’t able to stop Justin Fields, who had 58 rushing yards on 12 carries, 223 passing yards and a passing touchdown.
And yet, the Lions are favored over the surging Broncos this week. They’ve bounced back from every loss this season and have yet to get two consecutive L’s. At the same time, they’ve gone 2–2 over the last four games, and their two losses were at the hands of division rivals.

The Denver Broncos started this season with a dismal outlook: After losing their first three games straight, they went 1-5 in their first six.
But then, something changed. In Week 7, they beat the Green Bay Packers to launch a five-game win streak. Now they’re 7-6 and in contention for an AFC wild-card spot.
Russell Wilson now has 2,609 yards and 23 touchdowns, which ties him for fifth in the league. He also has eight interceptions, though – three of them thrown against Houston in their most recent loss in Week 13.
But a big win against the L.A. Chargers set them back on course. Are they ready for another win streak?
Denver is 4-3 at home and 3-3 away, and they need this win to push themselves further into the playoff picture – and even threaten the Chiefs position at the top of the AFC West.
We’re going with Denver to cover. While there’s a high chance the Lions come back stronger after their embarrassing loss to the Bears, there’s also a chance Denver keeps surging. We’re hedging our bets and saying the Broncos can keep it closer than a touchdown.
