Jon Rahm to win his three-ball

After a blistering start to the season, Jon Rahm’s campaign has tailed off after winning the Masters in April. The Spaniard was the world number one after winning his first green jacket but has since slipped to number three and never really threatened to get the win at the Tour Championship to end the PGA Tour season.

Despite that, Rahm is still one of the most dangerous players in the world of golf and he loves the Ryder Cup so is more determined than ever to put on a good show this week to try and re-find his A-game before the showpiece event in two weeks.

On day one at the BMW PGA Championship, Rahm opened with a solid yet unspectacular round of 71 to leave him on -1. On day one, Rahm played alongside Hojgaard and Hatton and he will do so again on Friday. Hojgaard shot a +4 on Thursday while Hatton was much better on -4, however, the Englishman is known for being a streaky player who struggles for consistency.

Expect Rahm to have a big day on Friday to move closer to the top of the leaderboard. It should be enough to outscore Hatton, who rarely puts together consecutive low rounds, and Hojgaard, who looked completely out of sorts on Thursday.

Viktor Hovland to win his three-ball

Viktor Hovland is in the most star-studded group of the opening two days, playing alongside Rory McIlroy and Ludvig Aberg. All three men are in Luke Donald’s Ryder Cup team and all three are expected to play a key role across all three days in Rome.

Hovland himself will currently be on cloud nine after his end-of-season form saw him win the very lucrative FedEx Cup after a dominant display at the Tour Championship. The Norweigan started well enough on Thursday too at this event, carding a -3 to leave himself in a handy position going into Friday.

McIlroy, on the other hand, only managed to go round in even par which puts him at risk of missing the cut if he performs poorly on day two. Perhaps surprisingly, Aberg was the pick of the three on day one, carding a round of 68 to sit one place above Hovland in the leaderboard.

We expect Hovland to be the pick of the three on day two after he ended his first round in style. He scored three birdies over the final seven holes and momentum is a huge weapon to have in golf.
