Boston Bruins vs. Calgary Flames Prediction, Preview, and Odds

The Boston Bruins face the Calgary Flames with both teams heading in opposite directions heading into the trade deadline. The Bruins have a 33-12-11 record and are in second place in the Atlantic Division. The Flames have a 26-25-5 record and with only five wins in their last 10 games, they have fallen into sixth place in the Pacific Division. Both teams look to improve in their divisions and the upcoming game should be a good one as a result.

Bruins have played great across the board

The Bruins are having a great season with their offense stepping up and scoring 3.32 goals per game. David Pastrnak and Brad Marchand have 60 goals and 71 assists to lead the top line but the rest of the offense has been great as well. Charlie Coyle, James van Riemsdyk, and Pavel Zacha have combined for 41 goals and 75 assists while defenseman Charlie McAvoy has added eight goals and 30 assists from the point to open up the offense.

The offense has stepped up but the defense has led the way, allowing only 2.64 goals per game. Hampus Lindholm and Brandon Carlo have combined for 7.6 defensive point shares and 158 blocked shots while Charlie McAvoy and Matt Grzelcyk have combined for 5.2 defensive point shares to give the Bruins two great defensive pairings. In addition, goaltender Jeremy Swayman has stepped up with a .922 save percentage and a 2.39 goals-against average on 909 shots with 16.7 goals saved above average.

Flames hope offense turns season around

The Flames are having a rough season despite their offense stepping up and scoring 3.07 goals per game with six goals in their previous game. Nazem Kadri, Blake Coleman, and Yegor Sharangovich have scored 61 goals and 68 assists to lead the top two lines but the rest of the offense has stepped up as well. Jonathan Huberdeau, Mikael Backlund, and Andrew Mangiapane have scored 32 goals and 61 assists while defensemen MacKenzie Weegar and Noah Hanifin have added 24 goals and 39 assists from the point to open up the offense.

The offense has been great but the defense has let them down, allowing 3.09 goals per game. While Weegar and Hanifin have combined for 6.7 defensive point shares, the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net with ease. Ther bright spot has been the play of goaltender Jacob Markstrom who has a .913 save percentage and a 2.60 goals-against average on 1024 shots with 9.8 goals saved above average.

The Bruins are having a great season but I see the Flames stepping up and controlling this game on both ends of the ice. The Flames, who average 3.07 goals per game, should pile on the goals with Nazem Kadri, Blake Coleman, and the rest of the forward unit carrying the puck into the offensive zone and creating open shots with quick passes. The Flames look to limit the Bruins' offense with MacKenzie Weegar, Noah Hanifin, and the rest of the defensive unit creating turnovers in the defensive zone and limiting shots on the net, allowing goaltender Jacob Markstrom to make plenty of big saves. The Flames, should win the game and provide great odds in the process as home Underdogs.

Take the Flames money line as home Underdogs.

Prediction: Flames (+110)

Both teams are playing great offense and I see this game being a high-scoring one from the opening puck drop. The Bruins, who average 3.32 goals per game, should create plenty of scoring chances with David Pastnak, Brad Marchand, and the rest of the forward unit controlling the puck in the offensive zone and creating open shots with quick passes. The Flames look to build off a six-goal game and run up the score with Nazem Kadri, Blake Coleman, Yegor Sharangovich, and the rest of the forward unit crashing the net on the rush and creating open shots with effective puck movement while defensemen MacKenzie Weegar and Noah Hanifin generate shots on the net from the blue line. The Over should cover in a high-scoring game with both offenses stepping up.

Take the Over on 5.5 goals.

Prediction: Over 5.5
