Calgary Flames vs. Boston Bruins Prediction, Preview, and Odds

The Calgary Flames face the Boston Bruins with both teams heading in opposite directions as they return from the break. The Flames have a 22-22-5 record and with only five wins in their last 10 games, they are in sixth place in the Pacific Division and it forced their hand to trade away Elias Lindholm during the break. The Bruins have a 31-9-9 record and with seven wins in their last 10 games, they have the best record in the Atlantic Division. Both teams look to make a statement in their first games back from the All-Star break and the upcoming game should be a good one.

The Flames are having a rough season despite their offense stepping up and scoring 3.04 goals per game. The offense has been great but the defense has struggled, allowing 3.08 goals per game with 16 goals in the last five games. Noah Hanifin and MacKenzie Weegar have combined for 6.1 defensive point shares but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net with ease. The bright spot has been the play of goaltender Jacob Markstrom who has a .912 save percentage and a 2.60 goals-against average on 853 shots with 7.2 goals saved above average.

Bruins have looked great across the board

The Bruins are having a great season with their offense stepping up and scoring 3.49 goals per game with nine goals in the last two games. David Pastrnak, Brad Marchand, and Charlie Coyle have scored 75 goals and 86 assists to lead the top two lines but the entire offense has stepped up. James van Riemsdyk, Pavel Zacha, and Trent Frederic have combined for 32 goals and 59 assists while defensemen Charlie McAvoy and Hampus Lindholm have added eight goals and 44 assists from the point to put the offense over the top.

The Bruins are having a great season and look to control this one from the first period. The Bruins, who average 3.49 goals per game, should create plenty of scoring chances with David Pastrnak, Brad Marchand, and the rest of the forward unit carrying the puck into the offensive zone and creating open shots with quick passes. The Bruins, who allow only 2.59 goals per game, should limit the Flames offense with Charlie McAvoy, Hampus Lindholm, and the rest of the defensive unit creating turnovers in the defensive zone and limiting shots on the net, allowing goaltender Jeremy Swayman to make plenty of big saves. The Bruins should win the game and cover the spread in a dominant win on their home ice.

Prediction: Bruins -1.5 (+130)

Both teams have great offenses that look to step up and find the back of the net throughout the game. The Flames, who average 3.04 goals per game, should pile on the goals with Nazem Kadri, Blake Coleman, and the rest of the forward unit carrying the puck into the offensive zone and creating open shots with quick passes. The Bruins, who have scored nine goals in their last two games, should run up the score against the Flames, who allow 3.08 goals per game, with David Pastrnak, Brad Marchand, Charlie Coyle, and the rest of the forward unit crashing the net on the rush and creating open shots with effective puck movement while Charlie McAvoy and Hampus Lindholm pick apart the Flames defense from the point. The Over should cover in a high-scoring game with both offenses stepping up.

Take the Over on 6 goals.

Prediction: Over 6
