Braves vs Mets Prediction and Best Bets for Today (8/13)

In a season full of bad days, yesterday was a truly miserable day for the New York Mets. Will they pull themselves up off of the mat to salvage something from their series with Atlanta, or will the Braves break out the broom in this week’s Sunday Night Baseball showdown (7:00 pm ET, ESPN)?

After the Braves opened the series with a 7-0 win on Friday night, the two teams played a doubleheader yesterday.

Behind six homers and 22 hits, including two from new MLB home run leader Matt Olson, the Braves rolled to a 21-3 win in the opener. In the nightcap, Spencer Strider boosted his NL Cy Young Award odds with seven scoreless innings in a 6-0 win.

What is in store for tonight’s matchup at Citi Field? The Mets have already punted away the season at this point, but you have to hope they will play with some fire after being thoroughly embarrassed in the first 27 innings of the series.

Pitching Matchup for Braves vs Mets

  • Atlanta Braves: RHP Yonny Chirinos (18 appearances – 7 starts, 5-4, 4.83 ERA)
  • New York Mets: RHP Kodai Senga (21 starts, 8-6, 3.24 ERA)

Will Senga Help Stop the Bleeding in the Series Finale?

It’s safe to say that there haven’t been many positives for the Mets this season.

Pete Alonso has 35 homers, but his .223 average would be a career low after he hit a career-high .271 last season.

After winning the NL batting title last season, Jeff McNeil has reverted back to the 2021 version of himself (which hit .249), with his current .255 average more than 40 points below his career average.

Both Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander, who were expected to form one of the best duos in the majors, are now on opposite sides of the battle for the AL West title.

But there has been at least one bright spot in Kodai Senga, who has settled in quite well in MLB.

Last time out against the Cubs on Monday, he picked up his eighth win, as he allowed two runs, seven hits, and two walks and struck out six.

It continued his strong form at Citi Field this season. In 11 home starts, he is 4-2 with a 2.45 ERA. On the road, he is 4-4 with a 4.10 ERA in ten starts.

In his last four home starts, Senga has a 2.35 ERA and has allowed only six runs and 18 hits in 23 innings.

But will he be able to cool off the Braves tonight? This will be his first time facing the Braves, and he’s in for a tough task after Atlanta scored 34 runs in the first three games.

Alos, while they hit much better against LHP (.294) than against RHP (.267), in games started by RHP, they average more runs per game (5.72) than in games started by LHP (5.67).

Braves vs Mets Best Bets: Braves ML (-135 at Bovada) & Braves team total over 4.5 runs (-145 at Bovada)

Chirinos has surrendered 13 runs and 19 hits in 13.2 innings in three starts for the Braves, and there’s a good chance that they will need to score to win tonight.

But the Braves are well-equipped to do just that and have been. Chirinos has yet to pick up his first win Atlanta, but they are 3-0 in those in his three starts thanks to outstanding run support. In those three games, the Braves outscored their opposition 30-19.
