The horses are nearing the paddock with a final week of prep until the top Thoroughbreds move into the starting gate for the 40th Breeders’ Cup World Championships at Santa Anita Park. The southern California race track in Arcadia, just 16 miles from Los Angeles, hosts the Breeders’ Cup for a record 11th time, and record wagering is expected again.

“The Breeders’ Cup is truly an international championship event and the very best our sport has to offer,” Breeders’ Cup president and CEO Drew Flemming said following last year’s record wagering event.

Post positions for the 2023 Breeders’ Cup will be determined Monday, Oct. 30 at the Rood & Riddle Post Position Draw. We’ll update the horses and odds following the draw beginning at 7:45 p.m. ET. The program will be televised live on FanDuel TV and livestreamed on BreedersCup.com.

I’ll be attending my fifth Breeders’ Cup since first going in 2016 at Santa Anita. That’s where a confrontation of champions took place in the Distaff, and one of the great Breeders’ Cup races with the magnificent mare and 18-time champion Beholder winning by a nose over undefeated 13-time winner Songbird.

Seeing these beautiful animals up close is just part of the special experience of watching the world’s greatest races horses at the Breeders’ Cup. The fans expressions and reactions before, during and after the races is exciting beyond just the watch and wager action.

How to Watch and Wager on the Breeders’ Cup Races

USA Network and FanDuel TV will both televise the first day of this year's Breeders' Cup on Friday, Nov. 3. “Future Stars Friday” features five Breeders’ Cup races for 2-year-olds on the 10 race card.

Then on Saturday, Nov. 4, nine Breeders’ Cup races are part of the 12 race card. The $6 million Breeders’ Cup Classic headlines the biggest day of horse racing.

Television coverage on Saturday starts at 1:30 p.m. ET on USA Network and Peacock. There will be more than 3 hours of live programming on NBC and Peacock starting at 3:30 p.m. ET / 12:30 p.m. PT.

In addition, FanDuel TV will televise eight of the nine Breeders’ Cup World Championships races on Saturday. FanDuel is the only sportsbook App where you can bet on the Breeders’ Cup.

Also, for the first time in the 40-year history of the Breeders' Cup, the featured $6 million Breeders' Cup Classic will not be the final Breeders' Cup race - a move that aligns it with NBC's college football coverage set to begin Saturday at 4 p.m. PT. The Classic is Race 9 on the card at 3:40 p.m. PT. The BC Classic will be followed by the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint in Race 10 and the Breeders' Cup Sprint in Race 11.
