Despite allowing the most points (70) in an NFL game since 1966 in Week 3, the Broncos are favored by a field goal or more at most sites Sunday. The game total is hovering around 46 points.

That spread is a testament to how poorly the early season has gone for the Bears, who have dropped 13 straight games overall, lost all three of their 2023 contests by double digits and rank among the league’s bottom six in scoring, total yards and points and yards allowed.

That still hasn’t been nearly enough, though, to offset a stunning defensive drop-off for the Broncos, who rank last in a number of statistical categories following the mauling in Miami, including points (40.7) and yards (458.3) allowed per game, yards allowed per play (7.2) and points permitted per drive (3.78).

When a game features the two worst scoring defenses in the league and teams that are a combined 5-1 to the over so far on the season, it’s a bright “over” green light with a total below 50 points.

Even if the Broncos had limited the Dolphins to the 35 points they put up in just the first half last Sunday, Denver games would still be averaging 52 combined points (instead of a whopping 63.7).

Meanwhile, all three Bears contests in 2023 have cleared their posted totals with a combined average of 51 points scored per game.

Fields has only reached 215 total yards in one game so far this season, finishing with 265 Week 1 against the Packers.

But Sunday’s matchup against a speed-challenged, poor-tackling Denver defense giving up 299.3 opposing QB passing/rushing yards per game provides Fields with a golden opportunity to shine.

He’ll almost have to with Wilson and Broncos likely to be putting up plenty of points of their own vs. the talent-deficient Bears D.
