Mitchell played under Bruins coach Jim Montgomery when he coached the University of Denver men’s hockey team.

The Bruins are in need of cap relief, and Chicago could use a bit of help up and down its lineup.

The Bruins are projected to have about $4.9 million in cap space for next season. Hall, according to CapFriendly, carries a cap hit of $6.25 million for next year, a $5.25 million cap hit for 2024-25 and was owed $12.5 million in real money over the final two years of his four-year deal.

Hall — the first-overall pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft — was traded to Boston in April 2021.

TSN’s Chris Johnston reported that the Blackhawks were not one of the 16 teams on Hall’s no-trade list, so the trade was able to get done “without his consent.” Hall used his no-movement clause to help make the trade to the Bruins happen in 2021.

The forward scored 16 goals and notched 20 assists in the Bruins’ historic 2022-23 season, and amassed eight points (5 goals, 3 assists) in first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs against the Florida Panthers.
