Where Teams Stand Heading Into All-Star Weekend

The Boston Celtics have been the best team in the league all season long and are represented this weekend by Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum. Boston has the top record in the NBA at 43-12, the sixth most victories before the all-star game.  The Celtics’ 43 victories are one more than they had at the all-star break a year ago despite playing four fewer contests.

Boston holds a six-game lead over the upstart Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavaliers (36-17) are two 0ne-half games up on third place Milwaukee (35-21). The  New York Knicks (33-22) are in fourth place, followed by the Philadelphia 76ers (32-21) and Indiana Pacers (31-25).

The Miami Heat (30-25), Orlando Magic (30-25), Chicago Bulls (26-29) and Atlanta Hawks (24-31) are seventh through 10th. The Brooklyn Nets (21-33) are in 11th place and two and one-half games behind the Hawks.

Meanwhile, the Western Conference is much more jumbled up. The Minnesota Timberwolves are off to their best start in franchise history and sit atop the Western Conference with a 39-16 record. The Timberwolves’ 39 victories are just three fewer than they had all of last season. Meanwhile, they are on pace to set a record for franchise victories with 58 in 2003-04.

The Oklahoma City Thunder (37-17) are second, one-half games behind Minnesota. The Los Angeles Clippers (36-17) are third, just two games behind the Timberwolves. Meanwhile, the defending NBA champions, Denver Nuggets (36-19), are three games back, followed by the Phoenix Suns (33-22) and New Orleans Pelicans (33-22).

The Dallas Mavericks (32-23) are one game behind Phoenix and New Orleans. The Mavericks are also just one-half games in front of Sacramento. The Los Angeles Lakers (30-26) and Golden State Warriors (27-26) are in ninth and 10th place, respectively.y

How To Use The Bonus Bets This Weekend?

Caesars is offering action on four NBA events this week. The first event you can use your bonus bet on is in the skills competition on Saturday night. They are also taking bets on the 3-point contest.

Then, on Sunday, Caesars is taking bets on the All-Star game itself and who will win the MVP.

Skills Competition

The skills competition has been a mainstay of NBA Weekend since Jason Kidd won the first event in 2003. However, the skills competition will be a team affair for the third consecutive year. The teams participating are the Pacers, Top Picks, and All-Stars.

Team Top picks are the favorites at +145. Victor Wembanyama, Anthony Edwards, and Paolo Banchero are participating in the event for the No. 1 picks.

The Pacers (+170), the host of all-star weekend, is represented by Tyrese Haliburton, Myles Turner and Bennedict Mathurin.

The All-Stars are represented by Trae Young, Scottie Barnes, and Tyrese Maxey. Young and Barnes have previously participated in the event. They are a slight underdog at +180.

The Pick: The Pacers (+170). This event is a total crapshoot. But the Pacers are looking to be the third straight host team to win the event.

NBA 3-Point Contest

If the skills competition doesn’t wet your betting appetite, the NBA skills competition may.

The NBA 3-point contest is one of the most extended All-Star events, first taking place during the 1985-1986 all-star event. Damian Lillard, the defending champion, and Karl-Anthony Towns look to become the eighth player to win the event multiple times. Jason Kapono is the last player to win back-to-back events in 2007 and 2008.

Larry Bird and Craig Hodges share the record for most wins with three. Mark Price, Jeff Hornacek, Peja Stojakovic, and Stephen Curry are the other players to win the 3-point contest at least twice. Curry is the only one of the group not to win back-to-back events.

The 2024 Competitors

Damian Lillard (+375): Lillard is participating in his fourth 3-point contest. Lillard made 52 3-pointers to win the event last year, topping Buddy Hield and Haliburton, who both finished with 48.

Lillard is 15th in the league this year in 3-pointers, though he is shooting 34.1% from beyond the arc. He has made the third most 3-pointers among active players with 2535 and fifth overall.

Tyese Haliburton (+475): Haliburton is in his second 3-point event. He led the last year’s contest with 31 points after the first round but only totaled 17 in the finals. Haliburton is making 3.2 treys a game this year and is a career 40.6% 3-point shooter, which ranks 13th among active players and 32nd all-time.

No player from the host team has ever won the 3-point contest.

Trae Young (+550): Young is partaking in his third 3-point contest. Young finished second to Towns in 2022. He is third in 3-pointers made this year.

Lauri Markkanen (+750): Markkanen is making his second appearance in the 3-point contest. He didn’t reach the finals last year, as he finished the opening round with 20. Markkanen was 20th in 3-pointers made a year ago and is 13th this season.

Jalen Brunson (+700): Brunson is in his first 3-point competition. Brunson is having a career year and has shot over 40% from deep in three of the last four seasons. He is a career 39.2% 3-point shooter.

Donovan Mitchell (+700): Mitchell posted 22 in the opening round of his only 3-point appearance in 2021. Mitchell is just a 36.5% career 3-point shooter.

Malik Beasley (+500): Beasley is also a first-time participant. This season, he is connecting on a career-best 44.4% from beyond the arc. Beasley was fifth in 2021-22, seventh in 3-pointers in 2022-23, and 11th this season.

Karl-Anthony Towns (+800): Towns, the 2022 3-point champion, is shooting a career-best 43.7% from the 3-point line. He is a 40% shooter from a long distance for his career.
