The Ottawa Senators face the Boston Bruins with both teams on opposite ends of the standings this season. The Senators have a 26-24-4 record and are near the bottom of the Atlantic Division while the Bruins have a 42-8-5 record and with three wins in a row are in first place in the Eastern Conference. The Senators are looking to turn around their season while the Bruins hope to remain in first place in the conference and the upcoming game looks to be a good one as a result.

Senators defense has let them down this season

The Senators are having a rough season despite their offense stepping up and scoring 3.00 goals per game. Brady Tkachuk and Tim Stützle have scored 47 goals and 66 assists to lead the top line but the rest of the offense has also stepped up. Claude Giroux, Alex DeBrincat, and Drake Batherson have combined for 56 goals and 84 assists while defensemen Thomas Chabot and Travis Hamonic have added 11 goals and 29 assists from the point to open up the offense.

The offense has been great but the defense has been awful, allowing 3.22 goals per game. Chabot and Hamonic have combined for 4.3 defensive point shares but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net at will. The hope is that goaltender Kevin Mandolese can build off a strong start as he saved 46 of the 48 shots in his NHL debut.

Bruins have looked great on both ends of the ice

The Bruins are having a great season with their offense stepping up and scoring 3.73 goals per game with 14 goals in the last three games. David Pastrnak, Brad Marchand, and David Krejci have scored 68 goals and 98 assists to lead the top two lines but the entire offense has been great. Patrice Bergeron, Pavel Zacha, and Taylor Hall have combined for 49 goals and 65 assists while defensemen Hampus Lindholm and Charlie McAvoy have added 10 goals and 62 assists from the point to put the offense over the top.

The offense has been great but the defense has also stepped up, allowing only 2.07 goals per game including only four goals in the last three games. Hampus Lindholm and Matt Grzelcyk have combined for 9.2 defensive point shares and 135 blocked shots while Charlie McAvoy, Brandon Carlo, and Connor Clifton have combined for 10.4 defensive point shares to add depth to the unit. In addition, goaltender Linus Ullmark is having a remarkable year with a .936 save percentage and a 1.91 goals-against average on 1021 shots with 31.4 goals saved above average.

Rating:

The Senators are looking to pull off the upset but the Bruins look like one of the best teams in the league and look to control this game on both ends of the ice. The Bruins, who average 3.73 goals per game, should find the back of the net at will with David Pastrnak, Brad Marchand, and the rest of the forward unit controlling the puck in the offensive zone and creating open shots with effective passes. The Bruins, who allow only 2.07 goals per game, should limit the Senators' offense with Hampus Lindholm, Charlie McAvoy, and the rest of the defensive unit creating turnovers in the defensive zone and limiting shots on the net, allowing goaltender Linus Ullmark to make plenty of big saves. The Bruins should win the game and cover the spread in a dominant win on their home ice.

Take the Bruins money line as home Favorites.

Prediction: Braves -1.5 (-110)

Rating:

Both teams have great offenses and the upcoming game should reflect that with both forward units finding the back of the net with ease. The Senators, who average 3.00 goals per game, should create plenty of scoring chances with Brady Tkachuk, Claude Giroux, and the rest of the forward unit carrying the puck into the offensive zone and creating open shots with great puck movement. The Bruins, who have scored 14 goals in the last three games, should run up the score against a Senators defense that allows 3.22 goals per game, with David Pastrnak, Brad Marchand, Patrice Bergeron, and the rest of the forward unit crashing the net on the rush and creating open shots with effective puck movement while Hampus Lindholm and Charlie McAvoy pick apart the Senators defense from the point. The Over should cover in a high-scoring game with both offenses stepping up.

Take the Over on 6.5 goals.

Prediction: Over 6.5
