Caulfield Cup Weights released

The official weights for the upcoming Caulfield Cup have been unveiled, adding another layer of excitement to the already high-stakes competition.

Trainer Chris Waller is eyeing another win after clinching victories with Durston in 2022 and Verry Elleegant in 2020.

His charge, Francesco Guardi, is the current favourite and has been allocated 54kg. Soulcombe, another Waller-trained horse, has 53.5kg and is second-favourite, partially due to a remarkable win at the Heatherlie Stakes earlier this month.

Montefilia, a new addition to Waller’s stable, has been given 54.5kg as she aims to move beyond her fourth-place finishes in the last two editions of the race.

Japanese horse Breakup, trained by Tatsuya Yoshioka, will carry 55kg as he seeks to follow in the hoofprints of Mer De Glace (2019) and Admire Rakti (2014) as a Japanese victor.

On the international front, UK-trained West Wind Blows has been given 54kg for his Australian debut.

Among the four-year-olds, Manzoice and Kovalica, both trained by Waller, are eyeing the cup with respective weights of 53kg and 53.5kg.

Right You Are, with 53kg, is the only horse guaranteed a spot due to his Mornington Cup win earlier this year.

With two golden tickets to the race up for grabs this Saturday, the competition is shaping up to be as intense as ever.
