Things are heating up in the spring racing carnival, with all roads leading towards the $8 million Melbourne Cup on the first Tuesday of November.

Some of the best stayers from Australia and abroad will compete in the 3200m event at Flemington, but there's still plenty of action to unfold before we get there. 

Last year's winner Gold Trip is expected to compete once again, while overseas galloper Vauban and the Chris Waller-trained Just Fine are also near the top of the betting market.

The final field for this year's Melbourne Cup will be announced on Saturday, November 4th 

The confirmation will likely take place around 4.30pm AEDT.

French galloper Vauban is the early betting favourite, while the likes of Soulcombe and last year's winner Gold Trip  are also at single-figure odds for the Melbourne Cup at this stage.

This year's Melbourne Cup will be held on Tuesday, November 7th from Flemington Racecourse.
