Celtic hit with penalty for 'invasion of the field' as Aberdeen slapped with fine for Helsinki snowball chaos

CELTIC and Aberdeen have both been hit with fines by Uefa this week.

The governing body's disciplinary committee has decided both clubs merit financial penalties for incidents that occurred in their recent outings in the Champions League and Europa Conference League.

Celtic beat Feyenoord 2-1 on December 13, with Gustaf Lagerbielke scoring a late goal to give the Hoops their first win at home in Europe's top tier in ten years.

But the winning moment was married by fans jumping the advertising boards, including one punter who was met by a furious Brendan Rodgers.

The cost to Celtic will be €5,000 (£4.2k), with "invasion of the field" cited by Uefa.

Opponents Feyenoord have been slapped with a heftier fine however.

The Dutch club have been penalised to the tune of €16,500 (£14k) for "throwing of objects."

Elsewhere, Aberdeen have incurred a fine of €2,000 (£1.7k) after Dons fans lobbed snowballs onto the pitch during their Conference League clash against HJK Helsinki on November 30, targeting goalkeeper Niki Maenpaa in the second half of the 2-2 draw.

It led to the game being HALTED by the match referee, with Aberdeen players even gesturing to their supporters to cut it out.

The Pittodrie club will have to stump up €2,000 (£1.7k) for the fans' misdemeanours.

Meanwhile, former Celtic and HibsstarAiden McGeady has made a bold claim about Scott Brown - his new boss.

Four months on from being sacked by Fleetwood Town, Broony has taken over at Ayr UnitedQueen's Park 1-0.

And McGeady, 37, reckons ex-team mate Brown, 38, could still do a top job ON the pitch.

He said: “We’re a wee bit light on midfielders, but I’m sure he could come out of retirement, get his boots back on and he’d be all right.

“Nah, he’s in full-on management mode now, I’ve seen that in him already. He’s got his manager’s hat on."

Ayr won thanks to a goal from former Rangers, Motherwell and St Johnstone winger Jamie Murphy.
