Celtic target agrees personal terms with Serie A club

Celtic have been linked with a number of players in recent times. It will be interesting to see how many of the rumours are accurate and how many are not. One area where they clearly need to improve though is centre-back. The Hoops have struggled at the back ever since Cameron Carter-Vickers has been absent, as a result of having to undergo surgery.

Celtic leaked goals in the last few league games of last season, preventing Ange Postecoglou’s side from breaking the all-time record. And they also conceded six against Yokohama F. Marinos this pre-season.

Thus, Celtic could do with a centre-back or two, with question marks being there regarding the futures of both Stephen Welsh and Yuki Kobayashi. On the other hand, one of the players that the Hoops have been linked with in recent days is Xavier Mbuyamba.

But it looks like the Dutchman might be headed to Italy instead. As tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, Sampdoria are prepared to submit a transfer bid to FC Volendam for Mbuyamba worth €1.5 million. Personal terms are already agreed and the player is keen on the move.

Mbuyamba was one of the most highly rated young defenders in the world while coming through the ranks. He spent time during his youth career at both Barcelona and Chelsea, and had even been compared with Virgil van Dijk.

It did not work out for Mbuyamba at either Barcelona or Chelsea. And now, he finds himself in the Eredivisie, playing for FC Volendam.

Thus, a move to the Serie A might be a nice step for Mbuyamba’s career. On the other hand, Celtic are believed to be closing in on signing a centre-back as well. It is believed that they are on the verge of announcing the signing of Maik Nawrocki.
