Champions League picks and props for the Round of 16: Bet on Man City to fill net, Kane to score

The Champions League is back with four Round of 16 matchups beginning this week.

The pregame narrative: Defending champion Manchester City kicks off the action on the road against FC Copenhagen. The Sky Blues are fully fit and should fill the net against an inferior opponent and the following day, Harry Kane is a good bet to score for Bayern Munich.

UCL oddsas of 3:56 p.m. ET 02/12/2024.

Champions League picks

Best Bet: Manchester City over 2.5 goals (+110)

Manchester City is hellbent on winning trophies.

The Sky Blues won the treble last year and are in a great spot to run that back this year. They've won eight straight games across all competitions dating back to Dec. 27 and have scored three-plus goals in five of those contests.

The squad is a perfect 6-0-0 in the Champions League this season and scored exactly three goals in each of those games.

It's not hard to see why City is -10,000 to advance past FC Copenhagen in the Round of 16. The squad is also -400 to win the first leg outright which doesn't hold much value. So backing Pep Guardiola's side to find the net three times at plus money is a nice find.

Erling Haaland is the best goalscorer on the planet and he finally has Kevin De Bruyne back in the midfield. That's not to mention the ensemble of the world-class talent surrounding those two.

Key stat: FC Copenhagen sits third in the Danish league and has given up 10 goals in its last five games across all competitions.

Quick pick

Kane to score (-112): Kane just had his worst game in a Bayern uniform, registering just 17 touches and one shot attempt in a 0-3 loss to Leverkusen in a crucial Bundesliga match.

But this is a nice bounce-back spot for the English striker.

Kane has 28 goals in 27 appearances for the Bavarians this season including four in six Champions League games.

He will be going up against a Lazio side that has been on shaky ground lately. Le Aquile has just one win in its last four games across all competitions and recently gave up three goals to both Inter Milan (in the Supercoppa Italiana) and Atalanta (in Serie A).

This is a really nice price to back one of the most decorated goalscorers of this generation.
