Champions Mile at Flemington Tips, Field Preview and Selections

Only seven starters have been confirmed for Saturday’s Champions Mile, but with a case to be made for nearly all of them, it could very easily be the standout race of the day.

Mr Brightside, Alligator Blood and Fangirl are all engaged, the mile at Flemington is ideal for each of them, and they’ve all tasted success at the highest level this time in.

Champions Mile – Winner

The flare of a nostril separated him from Romantic Warrior in the Cox Plate, and I’m confident that Mr Brightside will return to winning form in the Champions Mile.

He went to another level in the autumn of this year, winning the All-Star Mile before a successful defence of the Doncaster Mile, but somehow, he’s improved even more this time.

His campaign began with three-consecutive wins, including both the Memsie and the Makybe Diva at Group 1 level, before finishing second in each of the King Charles III and Cox Plate.

He’s hard fit and will take a power of beating again.

Champions Mile – 2nd

She really let down late in the Cox Plate after being forced to settle at the tail of the field, and Fangirl should be far more at home over the mile at Flemington on Saturday.

Fangirl is another horse that has undoubtedly returned to the races in career-best form this time, and her wins in the Winx Stakes and King Charles III have been franked by a further two sharp performances.

James McDonald rides this week, and the horse takes 2kgs from the likes of Mr Brightside and Alligator Blood.

Suggested Bet: No. 6 Fangirl

Champions Mile – 3rd

The Gator is hard fit and following an excellent performance in the Cox Plate as well, and he too will be in the thick of it on Champions Day!

The talented gelding has added the Underwood Stakes and the Neds Might And Power to his CV most notably this time, and at one point, he did look the winner at The Valley a fortnight ago, ultimately finishing just over a head third.

He won this race last year, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him kick away again under Timmy Clark.

Champion Mile – 4th

The Inevitable has well and truly wound back the clock this year, and he can return another bold performance under Damien Oliver in the Champions Mile.

The Dundeel gelding ran third in the All-Star Mile at the end of his autumn prep this year, and returned to action to finish third in the Theo Marks up in Sydney in September.

He has since finished midfield in each of the Epsom Handicap and Toorak Handicap, and he should receive every chance at Flemington on Saturday.
