Much like a few sides such as Rio Ave and Casa Pia, Chaves gained promotion back to the Portuguese top-flight in 2022 and they comfortably established themselves in the top-flight without too much effort. They did then lose their manager, Alvaro Pacheco, to Estoril and had to replace him with journeyman coach Pablo Villar for this weekend.
They come into this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting rock-bottom in the Primeira Liga table. They have managed to suffer five successive defeats at the beginning of the season. In those five games, they have scored just four goals and conceded a remarkable 17, which is four more than anyone else in the league.
ESTRELA DA AMADORA
Following the merger of two smaller clubs a few years ago, Estrela da Amadora have enjoyed two promotions in their last three seasons as they propelled themselves into the Portuguese top-flight for the first time ever. Under the management of former Farense coach Sergio Vieira, it will be some effort to avoid an immediate relegation.
They have started the 2023/24 Portuguese Primeira Liga campaign with just one win in their opening five matches but they have remained stubborn and difficult to play against in defeats to Benfica and Vitoria. Their most recent outing was another stubborn 1-0 defeat at home to title challenging Porto, last weekend.
