THE LOWDOWN

ESTRELA DA AMADORA

Estrela da Amadora are the product of two clubs merging a few years ago and in just three seasons of existence they have reached the Portuguese top-flight for the first time ever. Despite their impressive rise under the management of Sergio Vieira, Estrela are red hot favourites to be immediately relegated back down to the second-tier.

They have started the season with some impressive resilience and stubbornness. On the opening day of the season they went down to ten men inside 20 minutes but only suffered a 1-0 loss away to Vitoria. After that they were beaten 2-0 by reigning champions Benfica with both goals coming late on in the match. Since those tough fixtures they have managed to collect four points from two matches as they sit in mid-table.

PORTO

Porto underperformed for much of the first-half of last season, missing out on even challenging Benfica for the title until a late spurt towards the end of the season as their Lisbon rivals endured a minor blip. Sergio Conceicao will be set on reclaiming the Primeira Liga title but they have started with some very unconvincing performances so far.

The Dragons began the season with a defeat to Benfica in the Supertaca Candido de Oliveira. They won their opening three matches of the league campaign but had to come from behind against newly-promoted Moreirense, needed a 100 minute winner against a poor Farense side and then two goals in second-half stoppage-time to defeat Rio Ave before being held to a 1-1 draw by Arouca.

THE TEAM NEWS

PREDICTED XI (3-4-3): Bruno; Omurwa, Lopes, Gaspar; Hevertton, Leo Cordeiro, Aloisio, Nkanyiso; Jaba, Tavares, Ronald

PORTO

Sergio Conceicao has a couple of injury concerns to deal with in his squad but his best possible eleven will be able to be named as they travel to Estrela da Amadora.

PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Costa; Joao Mario, Pepe, Marcano, Sanusi; Pepe, Gonzalez, Eustaquio, Galeno; Martinez, Taremi

UNAVAILABLE:

QUESTIONABLE: Baro (Injured), Veron (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Despite suffering back-to-back defeats to start the season, both of those losses were really encouraging for the home team as they seek to perform a miracle by remaining in the top-flight. They have a stubborn defence and will be difficult for anyone to break down, let alone a Porto side so lacking in fluency. Three very scratchy and fortunate victories have papered over glaring cracks as they prepare for the start of the UEFA Champions League group stages. Porto remain favourites but it is not expected to be a thriller for the neutral.
