Chelsea vs Brighton preview

Life doesn't get any easier for Mauricio Pochettino at Stamford Bridge.

The Argentine tactician, 51, suffered his third defeat of the Premier League season on Sunday, losing 1-0 to Aston Villa.

The result left Chelsea in 14th position and five points from a possible 18 with their sole victory arriving against Luton over a month ago.

The Blues have failed to score in 13 Premier League games in 2023 - a division-high figure - and have not come from behind to win a game in almost a year.

The same cannot be said for Brighton, who reversed a one-goal deficit against Bournemouth over the weekend.

The win sent Brighton third in the league table with five wins from their opening six, and just three points behind leaders Manchester City.

It was Brighton's first foray into the Thursday-Sunday fixture set-up, and manager Roberto De Zerbi described it as "the worst in my time" at Brighton.

Chelsea vs Brighton betting tips

Home win…

It sounds strange to say given their lacklustre start to the season, but Chelsea aren't playing that badly. Luck does play a part and Mauricio Pochettino's side aren't getting much of that in key moments of matches.

Nicolas Jackson and Raheem Sterling were both denied one-on-ones by Emiliano Martinez on Sunday, while Enzo Fernandez sliced a glorious opportunity wide.

Only four sides have registered more attempts on goal than Chelsea, who are averaging a chance every 6.5 minutes. While only three sides have shipped less efforts on target than Chelsea's 22.

This will be Brighton's fourth game in 12 days, and though Di Zerbi is rotating his squad, his side did look sluggish at times against Bournemouth.

Team news will be important, but it's difficult to see Brighton prioritising a Carabao Cup match ahead of games against Aston Villa, Marseille and Liverpool.

2+ goals…

Brave or stupid? We're backing Chelsea to score 2+ goals on Wednesday at Evens with Paddy Power.

Chelsea have blanked in their last three but, as mentioned, that doesn't tell the whole story with the Blues still creating numerous good chances.

For all of Brighton's amazing attacking endeavour, they are still conceding and haven't managed a clean sheet in any of their last NINE games in all competitions.

Raz…

Mauricio Pochettino will almost certainly name his strongest starting XI for this one, and that includes Raheem Sterling.

The England international, 28, is playing well and has nearly DOUBLE the number of touches in the opposition penalty area than any of his colleagues.

Only Nicolas Jackson has had more attempts on goal than Sterling, who's mustered 14 efforts at an average of 37 minutes per shot. Sterling has four goals and one assist in nine appearances against Brighton, and is offered at 6/5 to add to that tally this week.

  • Our tip: Raheem Sterling to score or provide an assist at 6/5 with Paddy Power - CLAIM HERE
