Chelsea vs Liverpool prediction, odds, betting tips and best bets for highly anticipated 2023/24 Premier League match

The Sporting News

Two of the Premier League's biggest clubs clash in game week one as Liverpool travel to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea.

Both of these English heavyweights have brought in a number of expensive signings this summer in order to push their way back up the table this campaign. That's especially the case for Chelsea who have continued to spend heavily under owner Todd Boehly. Former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has also joined the club as manager with the task of getting the Blues back into the Champions League positions.

As for visiting Liverpool, they've had a busy summer transfer window with a number of major incomings and outgoings. Captain Jordan Henderson and midfielder Fabinho have left for Saudi Arabia and have been replaced with sizeable signings in the form of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai. Their new-look midfield will take time to gel fully but Liverpool fans seem happy with their business so far.

That then sets up an exciting meeting of the two clubs on the opening matchday of the 2023/24 season.

Chelsea vs Liverpool best bet

  • Pick: Both teams to score
  • Odds: -180 (BetMGM)

Despite the fact that the past four competitive fixtures between these sides have finished goalless somehow, we fancy both sides to find the back of the net here.

During preseason, both looked very strong offensively. Chelsea netted 13 times in five matches, whilst Liverpool struck 18 times in the same amount of games. In fact, Jurgen Klopp's side scored at least three goals in each outing, which could point to some free-scoring here.

Chelsea vs Liverpool prop bet

  • Pick:  Over 2.5 home cards
  • Odds: +110 (FanDuel)

It's no secret that these two sides don't like each other historically and for that reason, we had to putting a bookings-related bet in this preview.

Our selection is that Chelsea will pick up more than 2.5 cards in this match, which seems more than likely given the fact they received 77 yellow cards in the Premier League last season, one of the highest amounts.

There'll also be that air of desperation that both sides will want to win here, which could lead to an open, end-to-end matchup, which is much more likely to see bookings.

Oh, and Anthony Taylor is the referee.

Chelsea vs Liverpool flier bet

  • Pick: Darwin Nunez to score first
  • Odds: +600 (BetMGM)

Although Darwin Nunez largely struggled throughout his first season with Liverpool, the Uruguayan striker hit the ground running during preseason this summer.

With four goals across 210 minutes of action, he looks sharp and ready to play a starring role in Klopp's new-look side.

Additionally, although he didn't find the back of the net, one of his best games last season came in the 0-0 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, which could tee him up for another strong showing in this opener.
