Cheltenham accumulator tips: check out our 30/1 shot for Day 2

Day 2 of the Cheltenham Festival on Wednesday brings seven more races from the Cotswolds cauldron, headlined by the Queen Mother Champion Chase at 3.30pm.

Edwardstone leads the British hopes in the feature race and he has got the nod to oblige as our expert has put together a three-horse accumulator.

Nicholls inmate to get Britain’s Day 2 challenge running

Taking on the Irish novice hurdlers may seem folly after the way the Supreme played out on Tuesday but, in truth, few of the home-based contingent were considered genuine contenders there.

It is a green-dominated market for the Day 2 opener as well, with the likes of Impaire Et Passe, Good Land and Champ Kiely feared, but HERMES ALLEN is a proper sort for Paul Nicholls and can win the Ballymore.

He has won his three hurdles starts impressively and he boasts a victory over course and distance from the November Meeting, which could be invaluable.

Since then he has been to Newbury and demolished a decent field in the Challow Novices’ Hurdle. That form that stands some scrutiny.

Unlike some of Nicholls’s previous Challow winners – Denman and Bravemansgame, for instance – it is not a given that Hermes Allen will turn out to be a better chaser than he is a hurdler. He can travel best for longest in this 2m 5f contest and see off the Irish challengers.

Edwardstone the latest Arkle winner to become Champion

Arkle winners do well coming back here a year later for the Queen Mother Champion Chase and EDWARDSTONE can become the fifth such winner of this race since 2010.

He was subsequently beaten at Aintree last season, but that was the end of a long season for him against a fresh rival in Gentleman De Mee – a late absentee from this race.

Edwardstone sparkled in the Tingle Creek at Sandown on his comeback and uncharacteristically unseated Tom Cannon mid-race at Kempton at Christmas.

In January, when the Clarence House was rerouted from Ascot to here, Cannon had a target on the back of Energumene all the way, only for that rival to falter. That meant lots of petrol was used to go after frontrunning Editeur Du Gite, with no tow into the race, and Edwardstone got done a head by the winner.

He can be more tactically aware of that rival this time and Cannon should be last to play his cards coming up the hill. With doubts over reigning champ Energumene now, he is the one to beat.

Delta Work the Cross Country king again

DELTA WORK was the pantomime villain here 12 months ago when he came storming up the hill to deny Tiger Roll a perfect swansong in this race.

This contest has been his aim ever since and his run here in January when fourth in a handicap was the perfect prep. He is 16lb better off with Martin Keighley’s Back On The Lash now and should turn that around.

Another Elliott inmate, Galvin, is also going for this prize, but he appears to have lost his way and may not find his mojo amid the banks, cheese wedges, whisky barrels and stuffed hedges that make up this test.

Accumulator selection: Delta Work to win @ 6/5 with Betfred
