Cheltenham Festival 2023 five outside bets: Each-way tips for the Arkle, Gold Cup and more!

Cheltenham 2023 is coming to a close on Friday but the Gold Cup is set to bring the curtain down in spectacular fashion.

talkSPORT has all the action covered with tips for Cheltenham Gold Cup day with betting tips for each race!

With plenty of betting options open for the biggest week in horse racing there's also big prices and value to be had.

In previous years some of these races looked set before March but for the 2023 renewals, there's open contests throughout with big odds often available, especially for the handicaps.

Last year there were huge priced winners including some tipped here: Third Wind tipped at 28/1, Global Citizen at 40/1 and many more profitable each-way places.

Cheltenham Festival outside racing tips

4.50pm – Grand Annual Chase preview and tip

Tipped Global Citizen last year at 40/1 with the expectation of his wind surgery doing the trick and a return to chasing would suit.

And although he hasn’t impressed since, he’s only had one run over fences and disappointed in two tough graded hurdles this season behind Hewick and I Like To Move It.

But he’s still on a very dangerous mark of 139, considering he was once rated 156 over fences.

He went on to have two wind surgeries while rifling down the weights and is given a similar opportunity this year as an each-way chance.

But in these big fields it would be ideal to side with two horses each-way to boost your chances.

And one horse that stands out is Sizing Pottsie, also at 18/1 who could sneak in a little undetected due to finishing far back in his latest runs.

But they were in tough Grade 2 and Grade 1 chases, something this horse is used to – placing behind Energumene in December 2021 and Melon in 2022 in Ireland.

Was pulled up in this two years ago but had a wind op in July and stepping into a handicap off a much reduced mark while pinging about fences and hurdling gives off hints of a Global Citizen style run last year.

Turners Novices' Chase

The Cheltenham Trials were a big eye opener to the potential of this Paul Nicholls-trained horse.

He beat the field of 11 quite comfortably over the same distance as this race but also holds an entry to the Browns Advisory (3m).

Nicholls is keen to keep his options open but the seven-year-old hasn't tackled that distance before and it will be a big roll of the dice to opt for the step up in trip.

But at this price, 16/1, Stage Star is more than worth an each-way backing at this early stage with the prize money of £98,473 on offer for this Grade 1 Novices' Chase.

Stayers' Hurdle

Paisley Park 14/1

Paisley Park is a very popular horse and may bump into a few youngsters at this year's festival.

But he's always determined and is often at the finish in these big races.

Beating Goshen on Boxing Day by over four lengths and was only two and three quarter lengths off of Flooring Porter in this race last year.

He's versatile ground-wise too, meaning the horse will do well on both good and softer turf, so the rain won't be an issue for this now 11-year-old.

Gold Cup Chase

Hewick has a big chance to continue his list of awards and big wins.

Galopin Des Champs is of course the big favourite and for good reason but there's always a chance of an outsider, or at least a placer.

He's run over fences just nine times in his career and taken four wins including the Galway Plate, the bet365 Gold Cup and the US Grand National.

He has form over 3m5f and should be good to take on 3m as he was close at Listowel in September over the same distance but fell close to the last fence.

This looks more promising than his other entry in the Stayers Hurdle as chasing seems to bring out much more of his ability.
