Claudio Ranieri sent Leicester City message after latest heroics leave him in tears

Leicester City’s title-winning manager Claudio Ranieri was in tears on the pitch at full-time as he led Cagliari to promotion from Serie B thanks to a dramatic late winner on Sunday night.

Ranieri has been in charge of the Italian club in January, taking over with the club sitting in 14th position in the Italian second division. A run of just two losses under the manager saw the side rise up to fifth and qualify for the play-offs.

Cagliari overcame Parma in their semi-final before taking on Bari in a two-legged final. After a 1-1 draw in the first leg, the second leg looked to be heading for a stalemate after 90 minutes.

However, a 94th-minute goal from Leonardo Pavoletti secured the team’s place in Serie A next season in dramatic fashion. During the celebrations on the pitch after the full-time whistle, Ranieri was pictured in tears.

It’s the third promotion that the 71-year-old has achieved with Cagliari, having led them to back-to-back promotions at the start of his managerial career over 30 years ago. He will now prepare to lead the club in Serie A next season.

The achievement comes seven years after he led City to an unlikely Premier League title in 2016 with the club taking the crown at odds of 5000-1. Since leaving City in 2017, Ranieri has managed FC Nantes, Fulham, Roma, Sampdoria and Watford before returning to his former club.

His achievements in Italy have not gone unnoticed among City fans on social media.
