For the myriad teams vying for one of the four spots in the College Football Playoff, it all comes down to this: conference championship weekend.
The high-stakes weekend begins Friday night in Las Vegas, where No. 5 Oregon has a chance to exact revenge against No. 3 Washington as the Ducks and Huskies clash in the Pac-12 championship game. Sure, plenty of playoff scenarios remain, but many view this final Pac-12 game as essentially a play-in game for the playoff, with the winner likely grabbing a spot in the top four when the CFP committee’s final rankings are unveiled at 9 a.m. Sunday.
Then there are four other big-time conference championship games on the slate for Saturday, and those results also will affect the race for the CFP.
No. 7 Texas goes up against No. 18 Oklahoma State in the Big 12 championship game at 9 a.m. PT Saturday.
Then at 1 p.m., top-ranked Georgia faces No. 8 Alabama in the SEC title game.
At 5 p.m., No. 2 Michigan looks to stay undefeated against No. 16 Iowa in the Big Ten championship game, while No. 4 Florida State puts its perfect record on the line against No. 14 Louisville in the ACC title game.
How will conference championship weekend play out and who will wind up making the College Football Playoff? Check out the odds for all the games, plus score predictions from the college football coverage team at The Oregonian/OregonLive.
