COLLEGE FOOTBALL FRENZY: NCAA's Power Five conference finals shape up

The conference championship pictures are clearing up. The College Football Playoff photo is beginning to take shape.

The No. 9 Clemson Tigers (9-1) and No 7 North Carolina Tar Heels ( 9-2) will meet in the ACC championship game.

The winner of the Big Ten championship game between No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes and No 3 Michigan Wolverines will represent the East. The winner will be decided by the conference championship between four teams with 4-3 records atop the West.

The No. 4 TCU Horned Frogs (10-0) are the frontrunners for the Big 12 title. The frontrunner for that spot is the No 15 Kansas State Wildcats (7-3). They need to beat the host West Virginia Mountaineers (4-6) on Saturday (2 p.m. ET) and a loss by the Texas Longhorns (6-4) against the Kansas Jayhawks ( 6- 4) to clinch that position.

The Pac-12 championship game is this weekend. USC and Utah are the two teams that could qualify. An Oregon win and a loss by the No. 17 Washington Huskies to Colorado Buffaloes would put Oregon into the final.

No. 8 Alabama Crimson Tide won't be in the conference championship for only the third time in 11 years. Instead, it will be the No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs (10-0) against the no. 6 LSU Tigers (8-2) to decide the SEC.

No. 20 UCF can earn a berth in the American Athletic Conference title tilt with a win over Navy on Saturday. UTSA is in Conference USA finale with win or a loss. Toledo awaits either Ohio (7-4) or Bowling Green (6-5) in MAC final. Fresno State gets in with victory over Nevada late Saturday and losses by San Jose State and San Diego State. Coastal Carolina has clinched the East Division in Sun Belt and awaits Troy (8-2). TCU is playing host to Baylor on early Saturday (noon ET, FOX).

The Pac-12 has accomplished its annual eat-itself job. USC is the only team on the West Coast with fewer than two losses. New head coach Lincoln Riley brought in 40 new players through the transfer portal. Oregon's Bo Nix is out for its game against Utah on Saturday.

Chase Brown is the leading rusher in the nation with 1,442 yards. Illinois has lost three straight games. The team is playing Michigan on Saturday at noon ET. Three Virginia players were shot dead and another injured in Charlottesville. Virginia's home game against Coastal Carolina has been cancelled. All ACC teams will honour the players with special helmet decals and a moment of silence.

North Carolina is 9-1, Ole Miss is 11-2, Kansas State is 19-3 and Kansas is 7-4.

NC State is ranked No. 16. Cincinnati is not ranked.

Wyoming is playing Boise State on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET.
