College Football Week 5 Predictions: Tex/Kansas, ND/Duke, Utah/Oregon State, BYU/Cincy and much more!

Week 4 lived up to its top billing, with the standouts being FSU, Ohio State, and Oregon. Week 5 is no slouch featuring 4 ranked versus ranked matchups along with a variety of interesting games flying under the radar.

Marquee Matchups

#3 Texas vs. #24 Kansas: If indeed Texas is entirely back the Longhorns should be able to take care of business this Saturday. UT hasn’t rushed the ball the way they did last year, churning just 156 yards per game compared to the Jayhawks at 218 a game. Both teams thus far have done an excellent job at containing their opponents’ rushing attack. That said, Texas has faced the tougher scheduling, having beat Bama in Tuscaloosa in grand fashion. This College Football junkie favors Kansas QB Jalon Daniels over Quinn Ewers from an all-purpose standpoint. The Jayhawks have had to grind out wins against decent teams which will equate to Kansas taking their first loss of the season.

The Pick: Texas wins but Kansas +16.5

Prediction: Bet Kansas to cover

  • Over/Under: Texas vs Kansas(61.5)
  • Spread: Texas -16.5
  • Pick: Bet Kansas to cover

#11 Notre Dame vs. #17 Duke: Okay maybe the Blue Devils brand in football doesn’t scream marquee matchup but given their win over Clemson makes this home game super important from a rankings standpoint. Duke has won 4 straight games by at least 20 points during a season for the first time ever. How will the Irish respond after losing a heartbreaker in the closing seconds to Ohio State? The QB matchup is probably closer than a lot of folks think between Notre Dame’s Sam Hartman and Duke’s Riley Leonard. Although Notre Dame came up short to the Buckeyes this NCAA Football podcaster really liked how physical they were in the 2nd half which will carry over in Week 5. Plus the Irish defense held up against a potent set of skilled OSU players.

The Pick: Notre Dame -5.5

Prediction: Bet Notre Dame to cover

  • Over/Under: Notre Dame vs Duke(52.5)
  • Spread: Notre Dame -5.5

Under The Radar

#10 Utah vs. #19 Oregon State: Can the Beavers bounce back from their 15th straight road loss to an AP-ranked foe? On the Utah side of things what the hell is going on with their #1 quarterback Cam Rising? Oregon State is very tough to beat at home just like Utah. That fact combined with being motivated after last week and their efficiency with the ground and pound makes this tough to predict the outcome. The Beavers were around a 3-point favorite and it held steady all week until Thursday when it jumped a point and half.

The Pick: Oregon State -4.5 unless Mr. Rising returns.

#13 LSU vs. #20 Ole Miss: This is a big SEC west showdown between two schools appearing to be going opposite ways. LSU should’ve been up on FSU at half but deserved what they got down the stretch of the game because of how poor they played. Ole Miss came out of the gates fairly strong last week only to be somewhat bullied by Alabama the rest of the way. Can the LSU defense show up enough to give the offense show cushion? The QB/WR duo of Jayden Daniels and Malik Mabers will be too much for the Rebels to overcome.

The Pick: LSU -2.5

Saturday Upset Special

N.C. State protects the home field with an upset over Louisville as a +3.5 dog.

Hardcore Barnburners

#22 Florida vs. Kentucky: Over the last several years the Wildcats have been known for running the ball and playing great defense. The defensive part is still pretty good but Kentucky is only averaging 131 rushing yards per game. Florida is on a roll after their clear win over the Vols. 50-50 game lends itself to being a close one until the final whistle.

The Pick: Florida -1

BYU vs. Cincinnati: It’s funny to see this as a Big-12 contest on the schedule. Both teams put on respectable efforts versus better teams last week and neither came away win a “W”. The Cougars can’t run the ball and have struggled a bit stopping the run so in walks the Bearcats rushing the ball for 219 yards which should be the key to victory. BYU needs to find some sort of rushing attack along with creating turnovers and forcing FG’s. Expect this Friday night scrap to be on the table for either team in the 4th.

The Pick: Cincinnati -2

Against The Spread

South Carolina +12 versus #21 Tennessee

West Virginia +14 versus TCU

Colorado +21.5 versus USC
