College sports roundup: Shallowater lineman commits to Red Raiders

Kasen Long, a junior offensive tackle from Lubbock County, has committed to the Texas Tech football team. Long was a first-team all-district honoree last season for Shallowater.

Texas Tech received six votes from the panel of 63 voters in The Associated Press Top 25 weekly football poll released Sunday. The Red Raiders (3-1, 1-0) play No. 25 Kansas State at 11 a.m. Saturday in Manhattan, Kansas.

Tech's Olle Wallin beat Tennessee's Blaise Bicknell 6-4, 6,2 in the men's singles championship match of the West Texas Pro Open. Wallins won seven consecutive matches without losing a set.

Lubbock Christian University's men's soccer team played to a 0-0 draw with No. 4 Midwestern State. The match was the last non-conference match for the Chaps. They start the nine-match conference schedule at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at West Texas A&M.

Tech is one of 13 teams entered in the Inverness Intercollegiate that starts Monday at Inverstess Golf club in Toledo, Ohio. Tech won the tournament the last time it was played in 2019. The highest ranked teams in this tournament are No. 5 Virginia, No 12 Georgia Tech, no. 16 Texas Tech and No 23 Washington.

Wayland Baptist football team beats Texas College 65-31. Bryan Ponder throws for 151 yards and three touchdowns and runs for another. The Pioneers set a new school record for points. Texas college is winless.
