Colorado Rockies news: What the starting lineup could (and should) be

Elías Díaz has signed a three-year contract extension with the Rockies. He is projected to be an average catcher in 2022. Dom Núñez should spell him against right-handed hitters. 2021 was the fourth-best season for Rockies catchers.

C.J. Cron was signed by the Rockies on a Minor League deal. He mashes and his plate discipline has improved recently. The Rockies extended his contract for a few years.

Brendan Rodgers has the best projections of any Rockies player. He has true breakthrough potential. He hit .295/.334/.497 from June 3rd to July 3st last year.

Ryan McMahon is a Gold Glove caliber defender and league average hitter with 25 HR pop. He should be moved to third base.

José Iglesias signed for Colorado Rockies. Igelsias had a rough year with the glove last season, but he's been an excellent defender for basically his entire career. He doesn't hit well, and his never-walk-ever style is damaging to a team that needs more discipline at the plate.

Connor Joe is a left-handed hitter who played in the Majors last season. He slashed .304/.392/.552 since his return to the majors on July 20th.

Sam Hilliard is a tall, freakish athlete with huge strikeout issues and light-tower power. Hillard has improved his plate discipline since his return from the minors. He has the speed to play in centerfield. He needs to be given that chance.

Kris Bryant would be a good fit in the right field for the Colorado Rockies. He played a lot of different positions in his career, but he's better suited for an OF corner.

Charlie Blackmon would be the primary designated hitter for this hypothetical Rockies team. C.J. Cron, Connor Joe and others would see time here as well.

The line-up for the 22nd Colorado Rockies is a passable one. Three of the players with a projection under a 100 wRC+ have the potential to outperform that projection.
