Creighton Basketball: 2023-24 season preview for the Bluejays

Creighton Basketball is another squad in the Big East that returns a bulk of its talent heading into the 2023-24 season as they look to make another run at an NCAA title. The Bluejays had a historic year in 2022-23 after finishing 24-13 on the year and 14-6 in the conference, good for third in the standings.

The Bluejays earned a 6-seed in the NCAA Tournament as an at-large selection and made quite the splash. They made it all the way down to the Elite Eight, the South Regional Final, against 5-seed San Diego State, falling at the buzzer 57-56 in a tough loss.

Creighton enters a new year as early favorites to win the Big East with Ryan Kalkbrenner, Trey Alexander and Baylor Scheierman back and some key additions out of the transfer portal to shore the departures of Arthur Kaluma and Ryan Nembhard. Steven Ashworth (Utah State), Johnathan Lawson (Memphis) and Isaac Traudt (Virginia) are this year’s additions out of the transfer portal as they’ll join two potential All-Conference candidates in Alexander and Scheierman as well as potential Player of the Year candidate Ryan Kalkbrenner.

Kalkbrenner has won two Defensive Player of the Year awards already as he returns looking to anchor a top program once again. His return easily makes the Bluejays a team to beat in the conference as they look to compete for a conference title and a national title this upcoming season. With a strong core and some returning role players, Creighton has an opportunity to be a top team out of the Big East once again. Take a look at the 2023-24 season preview for the Bluejays.
