Cubs vs. Angels prediction and odds for Tuesday, June 6 (Value on the total)

The Chicago Cubs and Los Angeles Angels kick off a weekday series on Tuesday, June 6 in Los Angeles.

This should be an interesting matchup, as the Cubbies send youngster Hayden Wesneski to the mound against Angels lefty Tyler Anderson.

Wesneski has struggled in 2023, posting a 2-2 record with a 4.81 ERA, but he has allowed one or fewer runs in five of his last seven starts.

Anderson, meanwhile, has not been what the Angels hoped for when they signed him this offseason. The lefty is 2-1 with a 5.47 ERA, allowing at least three runs in seven of his 10 starts.

Here’s how to bet on this matchup, including the latest odds:

There is a ton of value in taking the OVER in this matchup, starting with the Cubs offense.

Chicago crushes lefties, ranking fifth in MLB in OPS against them this season. Anderson’s ERA and Fielding Independent Pitching are both over 5.00, and he ranks in the 25th percentile in expected ERA.

Anderson relies on getting weak contact (fifth percentile in strikeout percentage), but even though he’s in the 91st percentile in hard hit percentage, teams have scored off of him with relative ease.

Wesneski is a wild card, allowing seven runs in a start on May 13 before only going 3.2 innings in his last start on May 31.

The Cubs are just 25th in MLB in bullpen ERA, so even if they have a short leash with Wesneski, it may not be enough to keep this Angels offense in check.

I’ll ride with the OVER here in what should be a high-scoring affair.
