Cubs vs Astros Prediction

The Houston Astros will host the Chicago Cubs for their series finale this Wednesday from Minute Maid Park. Houston took game two after controlling most of the contest, 7-3.

Cubs Betting Preview

Chicago comes in at 19-23 after losing to Houston. The Cubs have dropped back-to-back games, and they’ll look to avoid a second three-game skid already this month. The Chicago offense is scoring 5.75 runs per game, while batting .272, with a .345 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.36 ERA, with a 1.19 WHIP. Nico Hoerner has a hit in seven of the last ten games, and he now leads the Cubs in hitting (.303). Ian Happ is right behind him at .301 after hits in five of his last six games. Cody Bellinger has doubled in three of the last four games, and he’s just as close at .298 BA.

Drew Smyly (4-1, 3.05 ERA, 15 Ks) will get the call for Chicago. The veteran lefty put together his third quality start of the season last week in Minnesota, going six full innings, while allowing just two runs to earn his fourth win of the season. Smyly has only given up four earned runs combined.

Astros Betting Preview

Houston enters at 23-19 after defeating Chicago. The Astros can’t pull away from the .500 mark right now, and they’ll look to avoid falling to it on Sunday. The Houston offense is scoring 4.66 runs per game, while batting .238, with a .306 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 3.36 ERA, with a 1.21 WHIP. Yordan Alvarez has a hit in ten straight games, and he leads Houston in HR (.298) and RBI (39). Mauricio Dubon produced two doubles in last night’s win, and he’s first on the team in BA (.309) and hits (46).

J.P. France (1-0, 0.77 ERA, 8 Ks) will get the ball for Houston. The rookie righty pitched well in the Southside last week against Chicago, going 6.2 innings while allowing just one run to earn his first win of his MLB career.

Chicago vs Houston Trends

Chicago is 21-22 against the spread this season, with a 20-19-4  O/U record. Houston is 24-14 ATS this year, with a 21-18-3 over/under record.

Corey’s Free Pick

Houston did this too New York City last season, coming thru Queens and the Bronx to take the Mets and Yanks down, and they can complete that same cycle against Chicago here. The Astros had their way with the White Sox last week, and with one game left to complete the sweep of the Windy City, I think they pull it off. Back Houston to win in primetime Wednesday night.
