The Washington Nationals will host the Chicago Cubs for game two of their four-game set from Nationals Park. Chicago led the whole way in game one, and won by four, 5-1.

Cubs Betting Preview

Chicago comes in at 15-13 after defeating Washington. The Cubs stormed the nation’s capital to get back into the win column, and they’ll look to double down here. The Chicago offense is scoring 5.75 runs per game, while batting .280, with a .349 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 3.67 ERA, with a 1.17 WHIP. Nico Hoerner has recorded a hit in nine of the last ten games, and he now leads the Cubs in hitting (.323). Cody Bellinger is up to 18 RBI after producing a run in seven of the previous ten games.

Hayden Wesneski (2-1, 5.24 ERA, 15 Ks) will get the call for Chicago. The second-year pitcher responded to a tough outing with the Dodgers by going five innings and earning the winning decision in his last start versus the Padres. Wesneski struck out seven in seven full innings in his most recent road start against the Athletics.

Nationals Betting Preview

Washington fell to 10-18 after losing to Chicago. The Nationals have dropped six of their last seven at home, and they’ll attempt to get back on track in DC this time around. The Washington offense is scoring 3.42 runs per game, while batting .248, with a .320 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.16 ERA, with a 1.35 WHIP. Joey Meneses has a hit in five of the last seven games, and he leads the Nats in batting (.286). Lane Thomas hit his first homer of the season last night, and he’s scored a team-high 13 runs.

Trevor Williams (1-1, 4.10 ERA, 17 Ks) is set to start for Washington. The eighth-year pitcher has brought some reliability to the rotation in DC, going at least five full innings in each of his first five starts, while allowing more than three runs just once. Williams struck our four in five innings pitched in his start versus the Mets last week.

Chicago vs Washington Trends

Chicago is 12-13 against the spread this season, with a 15-9-1 O/U record. Washington is 13-12 ATS this year, with a 10-14-1 over/under record.

Corey's Free Pick

Chicago bounced back swiftly from a sweep in South Beach to Miami, and they have a good chance to remain in the win column Tuesday night. Washington has been so underwhelming offensively this season, and whenever they don’t send Josiah Gray or MacKenzie Gore to the hull, they should be targeted. The Cubs have advantages at the plate and mound, so roll with them to take game two.
