Nationals vs Diamondbacks Prediction

The Washington Nationals will head out to Phoenix this weekend to face the Arizona Diamondbacks for a three-game set from Chase Field.

Nationals Betting Preview

Washington moved to 13-18 after take three of four from Chicago. The Nationals stood their ground in DC, and now they’ll look to bring that energy to Phoenix. The Washington offense is scoring 3.42 runs per game, while batting .252, with a .316 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.36 ERA, with a 1.40 WHIP. Joey Meneses has multiple hits  in three of the last six games, and he leads the Nats in batting (.276). Lane Thomas recorded three RBI in Friday’s win over the Cubs, has scored a run in four of the last games, and he’s up to a team-high 16 runs.

Josiah Gray (2-4, 2.67 ERA, 25 Ks) will take the mound for Washington. The third-year pitcher came through with another strong performance last week, striking out six in six innings of work, while allowing just one run to defeat Pittsburgh. Gray shut the Mets out in his last road start, and he might find success here with the DBacks as well.

Diamondbacks Betting Preview

Arizona comes in at 17-14 after splitting games with Texas. The Diamondbacks got revenge in Austin with a five-run win, and they’ll look to capitalize on a manageable home spot here. The Arizona offense is scoring 4.13 runs per game, while batting .259, with a .304 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.96 ERA, with a 1.41 WHIP. Geraldo Perdomo had four RBI in a win over Colorado last week, and he’s among NL leaders in batting average (.409). Corbin Carroll (.309) has a hit in nine straight games.

Merrill Kelly (2-3, 3.06 ERA, 25 Ks) will take the mound for Arizona. The fifth-year pitcher put together his best outing of the season at Coors. Kelly allowed just one run over six innings, while striking out six to earn his second win of the season. Three of Kelly’s last four appearances have been quality starts, so he should fare well against a lackluster Washington lineup.

Washington vs Arizona Trends

Washington is 19-12 against the spread this season, with a 12-17-2 O/U record. Arizona is 18-13 ATS this year, with a 16-13-2 over/under record.

Corey's Free Pick

There could be another pitchers duel on tap for Friday night in Phoenix, as both Merrill Kelly and Josiah Gray are dealing at high levels right now. Gray has been one of the best pitchers in the majors despite his record, and Kelly should find little trouble containing a pedestrian Nats lineup in the desert. While I like Arizona finding a way to win this game at home, the contest has the elements of a low-scoring battle, so roll with Under for game one here.
