Curragh Irish Oaks betting tips and offer: Emily Upjohn withdrawn due to travel issues leaving Magical Lagoon clear

Curragh hosts the Irish Oaks this weekend along with more group races for a great meeting of racing for punters.

Based on the form and past runs this looks set for a few favourites winning in Ireland but there might be a bit of a surprise in line for either the Anglesey Stakes or Sapphire Stakes.

The Irish Oaks is going to be a thrilling encounter this weekend with the but crucially, Emily Upjohn will not be returning for John & Thady Gosden and boarded by Frankie Dettori once again.

Travel issues have meant the filly won't be travelling to Curragh, in Ireland to take part in the Group 1.

And now all fields for the group contests have been declared which includes the likes of Equilateral, Mooneista, Little Big Bear, Magical Lagoon and History.

Anglesey Stakes betting tip

2.03: Little Big Bear

This Aidan O'Brien-trained horse is rated incredibly high in comparison to most of these lightly raced two-year-olds and is sure to go off a huge odds-on favourite.

The colt by No Nay Never was due to race at Newmarket last week in the Group 2 July Stakes but was declared a non-runner shortly before the off citing the ground as the reason.

He's won by a neck on firm ground before so it shouldn't have been too much of an issue but clearly there was concern he doesn't like it as much as softer ground.

Good will be adequate though and should continue winning ways and living up to potential and going up to six and a half furlongs for the first time.

Sapphire Stakes betting tip

3.10: Equilateral 5/1

This 5f sprint holds some intriguing entries of this nine-runner field.

Equilateral will be reunited with Frankie Dettori which can only be a good thing as he was riding the gelding at Meydan in January 2021.

The now seven-year-old won again with Andrea Atzeni but hasn't been seen to the same effect in Group 1 competitions.

He was sixth, two lengths behind Raasel at Sandown in the Coral Charge, but really likes this trip.

The Charlie Hills-trained horse is likely to be there and thereabouts again this weekend after being seen to good effect in the King's Stand.

Mooniesta could be the biggest competition though with in-form jockey Colin Keane - boosted by the fact he's won over this course and distance too.

Irish Oaks betting tip

3.45: Magical Lagoon 5/4

Magical Lagoon has great form and after just five races has won twice, while also finishing close behind the likes of Concert Hall and Inspiral.

Now the clear favourite at 5/4 offers a great price for the Oaks with Emily Upjohn not making the travels up to Curragh.

The filly trained by Jessica Harrington has won at Curragh previously beating Albula by three quarters of a length in the Group 3 Flame of Tara Stakes.

Being beaten by Concert Hall and Inspiral is incredible form on paper, which speaks volumes in a Group 1 contest and trumps the rest.

The three-year-old would have given Emily Upjohn a good challenge so without her involved it should leave her clear if up to her usual form.
