Cythera and Ebhaar to show their class in Silver Slipper

Cythera and Ebhaar are going to race in the Group 2 $250,000 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday. Cyther a well-bred daughter of champion sire I Am Invincible won her debut at stakes level two weeks ago. Ebhara came ninth in Widden Stake last month. The fillies are rated at $7.50 and $10 respectively behind favourite Queen Of The Ball at$2.60. Snowden stable also has Russian Conquest and Revolutionary Miss. Revolutionary will race next in Group 1 Blue Diamond at Caulfield on February 26. Russian Convinced will have her final Golden Slippers lead-up in Reisling Stages on March 5. Miss Hellfire will run in Listed $150,00 Talindert Staks at Flemington.

Chris Waller-trained Press Statement won the Caulfield Guineas the previous spring. Astern started at $1.50 but had to work hard to hold off Defcon by a half-length in the Silver Slipper. Chautauqua produced an amazing late charge to win the Lightning Stakes at Flemington.

Pierro won the Silver Slipper 10 years ago. Pierro went on to win the Breeders Plate and the Todman Stakes. Wild And Proud, a stablemate of Piero, won Hobartville Stake. Black Caviar won her third consecutive Lightning Staking.

20 years ago, Lonhro was a champion colt from the John Hawkes stable. He won the Hobartville Stakes at three, but was injured and missed the autumn carnival. Now he has won 10 Group 1 races. Victory Vein, trained by Bede Murray, defeated Chuckle in the Silver Slipper. Guy Walter’s Spinning Hill scored a deserved Group One win in Lightning Stake.
