The Dallas Mavericks (36-39, 28-44-3 ATS, 39-35 O/U) meet with the Indiana Pacers (33-42, 39-36 ATS, 38-36 O/U) in an inter-conference bout on Monday evening. The Mavericks were charged with a road loss by the Hornets on Sunday. The Pacers were dealt a road loss by the Hawks in their previous clash. The Pacers earned a 124-122 road win in the lone meeting last month.

Mavericks Hit with Fourth Straight Loss

The Dallas Mavericks are in the early stages of a long road trip. Dallas has been slipping recently, losing four consecutive games. They lost a disappointing 117-109 decision to the Hornets on Friday and struggled again in a rough 110-104 road loss in Sunday’s rematch in a bout that had the Mavs as huge 13-point favorites. The Mavericks dipped 11th in the conference and are in danger of missing the play-in round. They are 3-7 in their last ten games and have covered in one of their last three road games.

Luka Doncic continues to deliver, sinking at least 30 points in all but two games this month. The 24-year-old point guard is sporting an average of 32.9 PPG and 8.6 RPG. He accumulated 39 points in the lone meeting against the Pacers. Kyrie Irving wasn’t at his best in Sunday’s loss but has been productive since arriving in the trade last month. The veteran point guard has reached 30 points in five of his last eight games and is averaging 27.2 PPG and 5.5 APG.  Tim Hardaway Jr. returned to action Sunday after missing a few games, sinking 15 points. The veteran small forward has posted an average of 14 PPG.

The Mavericks are only 2-3 in their last five road bouts including a victory against the Lakers. Dallas has scored 109 or fewer points in three of their last four games and is scoring an average of 113.8 points on the season, ranking them 17th. They are allowing an average of 113.9 points, placing them 15th.

Pacers Return Home

The Indiana Pacers are glad to be home after a four-game road trek. Indiana went 1-3 in the four road bouts, highlighted by a win against the Raptors. The Pacers lost to Boston on Friday night and were 10-point dogs in a 143-130 loss to the Hawks on Saturday. The Pacers need wins immediately as they have plummeted to three games out of the last play-in spot in the conference as we enter the final weeks. The Pacers have covered the spread in just one of their last five games.

Tyrese Haliburton has scored at least 20 points in four of his last five games after netting 19 in Saturday’s loss. The 23-year-old point guard scored 32 points against the Mavs last month and has delivered an average of 20.7 PPG and 10.4 APG. Myles Turner netted 24 points in the lone meeting against the Mavericks. The veteran center did not play on Saturday due to a sore back and is questionable. Turner is averaging 18 PPG. Buddy Hield has scored 16 or fewer points in three straight games. The 30-year-old shooting guard has recorded an average of 16.9 PPG on 45% shooting.

The Dallas Mavericks continue to stumble as the regular season heads into the final stages. They have now dropped four consecutive games including two straight ugly defeats against the last-place Hornets this past weekend. They are not a reliable squad when on the road, winning just 14 of 37 road games on the season.

Furthermore, the Pacers have the confidence they can beat this Mavericks team considering they already won the first meeting by a 124-122 score in Dallas last month. Doncic and Irving played in that game. Dallas has been hit or miss offensively, averaging only 111.4 points in their last five games, below their season average of 113 points.

I expect plenty of scoring. The Mavericks should be able to generate offense against one of the worst defensive squads in the league. Dallas is one of the better three-point shooting squads and the Pacers rank 24th in the NBA in three-point defense. Dallas takes more threes than almost everyone, ranking second in the NBA with an average of 40 three-point attempts per game.

In addition, Indiana was able to connect on 52% of its field goals in the 124-point performance against the Mavs last month. They have netted at least 120 points in four consecutive home games. The over is also a convincing 4-0 in the Pacers’ last four home games.
