DeAndre Hopkins Trade Odds: Chiefs 25% Top Contender For Star WR

DeAndre Hopkins is coming off the two worst seasons of his NFL career. Now he wants a change of scenery to try and find the form that made him a four-time All-Pro receiver.

Hopkins has reportedly requested a trade out of Arizona, and Cardinals management plans to honor that request if they can find a deal worth taking. Hopkins, who has three seasons with 111 or more receptions – but only 106 in the last two years combined – will generate interest with two years left on his contract.

Bookies.com oddsmaker Adam Thompson has used his NFL contacts developed over 20 years covering the sport to create these hypothetical NFL futures odds on Hopkins’ next team should the Cardinals trade him.

DeAndre Hopkins 2023 Team Odds

Odds above are hypothetical and have been created by the Bookies.com team for entertainment purposes only. They are not widely available on legal betting apps or betting sites.

Hopkins was a star with the Texans after being drafted by the team in 2013. From 2017-19, the WR averaged 105 receptions, 1,372 yards and 10 touchdowns. He was shipped out of Houston and was sent to Arizona, where he and Kyler Murray connected 115 times for 1,407 yards and six scores in 2020.

The last two seasons haven’t gone as smoothly. Injuries and a suspension for performance-enhancing drugs have limited Hopkins’ time on the field. Now he wants another trade. There will be hope he can produce WR1-level numbers again.

Hopkins is owed $19.5 million in 2023 and $14.9 million in ’24. That will keep some teams away, but not all of them. He does own a no-trade clause, but beggars can’t be choosers. The indication is he wants to play for a throw-first QB on a competitive team – perhaps a slight dig at Kyler Murray and the Cards.

Those wishes would knock out teams with considerable cap space and massive needs at receiver, such as the Bears and Ravens if they retain Lamar Jackson.

Most WRs would choose to play with Patrick Mahomes if the option was on the table. The Chiefs aren’t afraid to make trades – they shipped Tyreek Hill to Miami and Mahomes’ numbers actually improved across the board this season. JuJu Smith-Schuster and Mecole Hardman are free agents after this season, creating roster spots.

The Patriots were one win away from a postseason berth in a season that saw several bad luck/bizarre defeats. Mac Jones could use a No. 1 WR, the Pats can afford him and there sure appears to be a mutual admiration between Hopkins and coach Bill Belichick

The Packers have the QB (presumably) and should be competitive with a roster built to win now, but cap space could be an issue. The Cowboys are already have CeeDee Lamb and just gave Michael Gallup a big deal, but Gallup has underperformed after coming back from an ACL tear. This receiving corps needs improvement.

Daniel Jones blossomed into a high-level QB for the Giants, getting them to the postseason for the first time since 2016. If there is a lure for living in New York, for playing for a contender, then the Giants are still seeking a WR1 and are well-positioned to afford a big-time addition.

For a dark horse, consider the Detroit Lions, who just missed out on the postseason but made major advances under second-year coach Dan Campbell. The Lions have cash and they have a WR room full of young (and cheap) talent. The Lions are likely to spend the offseason shoring up a porous defense, but Hopkins should be on their radar.

The Field includes Hopkins' supposed favored locales. The Jaguars and Chargers are each reportedly high on Hopkins’ personal list. But each team already has a high-paid receiver and both are in the bottom-six in expected cap space for next season.
