Yo Yo Candy and jockey Angel Castillo clicked a win in spite of having the odds of 46-1, but Candy leaped 1/4 length, as reported by Paulick Report. Talking about the victory, Daniel Velazquez, the trainer of Yo Yo Candy, stated, “I jumped from the balcony over here. I don’t even know how I got here. This is a dream come true. As a kid, you dream of winning races here, and here I am.” This win is also the first North American graded score for the jockey.
Odds turned in favor of Castillo and Candy when the crowd favorite Golden Sweep with Jose Ortiz broke post 8 and was left behind by a significant margin. This was the time when Candy moved further from the post and reached the fourth position in no time, and while taking the turn, she swiftly reached the third position. Then Candy took over Dickens and clinched the victory in 1:11.83 with a stake amount of $98,000.
The Trainer’s Side of the Story
Velazquez is looking to enjoy the current victory for now and is focusing on Hopeful G1 worth over $300,000 on September 3rd. Velazquez stated, “But definitely the Hopeful could be in there, but we want to take it one day at a time.” Velazquez is extremely happy with Yo-Yo Candy’s performance and wants Candy to rest for now.
Candy was bred in California by Checkmate Thoroughbreds, and this is the second win of his career. He is the son of Danzing Candy and Ylanda B. Now Candy has a total winning purse of $141,250, and he is just getting started. With a bright future ahead, Yo Yo Candy’s win sets the stage for potential triumphs in upcoming races.
