Devy Fantasy Football Primer: Week 5 (2022)
It was a great Week 4 of college football. Clemson, Alabama, and Ohio State are at the top of their division standings. There are some surprising undefeated teams. Week 5 has some great matchups.
There are 21 undefeated teams in the FBS. There are 11 teams that are currently undefeated in Power 5 conferences. Kansas Jayhawks are the only team that has started the season 4-0. There is a three-tier competition for the #4 spot. Michigan, USC and Clemson are strong teams with flaws. Kentucky, Tennessee and Penn State are well-rounded teams. They share wins over Florida. The current rankings are as of week 4. It's possible that there will be more undefeateds than there are one-loss teams left. This is because there is nine one loss teams currently in AP Top 25.
Adrian Martinez is a graduate transfer quarterback at Kansas State. He was the 7th ranked dual-threat quarterback in the 2018 class. Last week he played well against Oklahoma. This week Kansas state takes on Texas Tech at home. Texas is coming off a win against Texas. The team is playing for a Big 12 championship.
DJ Uiagalelei is a junior quarterback at Clemson. He has a completion percentage of 64.5 percent and a passer rating of 155.6 on the season. This week he will play against NC State, who is allowing 4.7 yards per play and 60.8 completion%, and allows a third down conversion rate of 31 percent.
Blake Corum has played the running back position exceptionally well this season. He has shared the touches with Donovan Edwards last year, but he is only sharing touches this year with him. Last week, he rushed 30 times for 243 yards and 2 touchdowns. This week Michigan faces the stout defense of Iowa.
Jaydn Ott is a freshman running back from California. He is ranked 23rd in the 2022 recruiting class. Last week he had 19 rushes for 274 yards and 3 touchdowns against Arizona. This week Cal travels to Pullman to take on Washington State Cougars. Cal is 12-4 in their previous 16 games against Washington.
Jalen McMillan is a junior wide receiver at Washington. He has 397 yards off of 21 receptions and 4 touchdowns in four games this season. McMilan plays UCLA's defense this week.
Tyler Scott has 25 catches for 423 yards and 5 touchdowns this season. He is currently top five in all receiving categories in the American Athletic Conference and has the 8th most receiving yards in FBS. This is his second year starting for the Cincinnati Bearcats. They are currently 4-1 and travel to Tulsa this week.
Joel Wilson is a tight end for Central Michigan. He had a breakout season in 2021 with 31 catches for 367 yards and 6 touchdowns. This season he has 21 receptions for 224 yards in four games. Central Chippewa is currently 1-3, but their non-conference schedule has two of their three losses against ranked opponents.
Griffin Hebert is currently ranked 3rd in FBS among tight ends in receiving yards per reception through four games. He has amassed 327 yards off of 14 receptions and 3 touchdowns. Next week he will play UTEP, who gives up a lot of yards.
#7 Kentucky and #14 Ole Miss are playing each other in a neutral-site game. Both teams have 4-0 records. Ole Mississippi has the third-best rushing offense in the nation. Kentucky has one of the worst rushing offenses. The Wildcats have the advantage through the air. Kentucky's defense is ranked 17th in FBS and OleMiss's is 29th.
#10 NC State plays #5 Clemson in a game that is a preview of the ACC title game. DJ Uiagalelei is doing well for DJU. Clemson's defense has been a bit concerning recently. The only shining star for Clemson is Will Shipley. NC St's QB Devin Leary is efficient and protective of ball.
