Diamondbacks vs Phillies Probable Pitchers

Zac Gallen (6-2, 2.95) is scheduled to start for the Diamondbacks against left-hander Ranger Suarez (0-1, 10.50). Both will be pitching on four days of rest.

Gallen vs Suarez

Gallen had his worst start of the season last Friday when his six-game winning streak ended with a loss to the Pirates in Pittsburgh. He was rocked for eight runs (five earned) and eight hits in 3.2 innings with four walks and two strikeouts.

This will be Gallen’s fifth career start against the Phillies. He is 3-1 against them with a 1.93 ERA.

The road has been a challenge this season for Gallen as he has a 1-2 record and a 5.88 ERA in five starts away from home. However, he is 2-0 with a 1.89 ERA in three starts in day games. The Diamondbacks are 7-3 when Gallen pitches and he has logged six quality starts.

Gallen’s NL Cy Young odds are +300.

Suarez will be making his third start after starting the season on the injured list with a strained left elbow. He was activated on May 13.

Things were a lot better last October for the lefty.

Suarez was tagged for four runs on five hits in two innings last Friday in a loss to the visiting Chicago Cubs. He struck out four and walked three.

In seven career games (four starts) versus the Diamondbacks, Suarez has a 1-3 mark and a 5.79 ERA.

Last Friday’s loss was Suarez’s only outing at home so far this season and this will mark his first start during the day. The Phillies have lost both times he has been on the mound.

The table below shows how the Diamondbacks and Phillies MLB lineups have fared against Wednesday’s starters.

Batting Average vs Starting Pitchers

Diamondbacks first baseman Christian Walker has had success versus Suarez, going 5 for 11 (.455) with two doubles and a triple. Meanwhile, infielder Nick Ahmed is hitless in six career at-bats.

Phillies designated hitter Bryce Harper is 3 for 9 off Gallen with a double.

Diamondbacks vs Phillies Betting Trends

Corbin Carroll had three hits, including the go-ahead single in the eighth inning to lift the Diamondbacks over the Phillies on Tuesday night. Gabriel Moreno homered for Arizona and Emmanuel Rivera added two hits.

Kody Clemens had two RBIs for the Phillies and Harper had two hits. Center fielder Brandon Marsh (right shoulder inflammation) was scratched from the lineup and is unlikely to play Wednesday.

Diamondbacks vs Phillies Last 10 Games

The Diamondbacks are 27-14 against the Phillies since the start of 2016.

Diamondbacks vs Phillies Prediction

Gallen is coming off an awful outing but is one of the best pitchers in the game and worth backing at short odds. It is also hard to ignore the Diamondbacks’ recent history against the Phillies.
