No. 1 South Dakota State was not included on the list of finalists for the Walter Payton Award. The award is given annually to the most outstanding offensive player in the Football Championship Subdivision. Lindsey Scott Jr. is a favorite to win the award. John Stiegelmeier is the coach of the year for guiding the Jackrabbits to a 12-1 record. The Jacks are also the only team without a finalist. Of the 30 finalists, 13 did not qualify for FCS postseason. They were playing in Celebration Bowl. Seven of them were on unseeded teams.
