DraftKings offers betting odds on when Pistons' losing streak will end

Detroit Pistons fans are starting to wonder if their team will ever win again. And now, at DraftKings, they can actually bet on it.

DraftKings is offering odds on a “next regular season win” market for the team stuck in a 24-game losing streak, just two away from tying an NBA record.

The bets range from the Utah Jazz on Thursday (+120 odds) to not at all in 2023-24 (+100000). Yes, you can bet on the Pistons not winning another game this season and finishing the year on a 79-game losing streak.

Finding the market on the DraftKings Sportsbook app did require searching for "Pistons". It has 15 options to bet on the Pistons' next regular-season win, and there's even a friendly reminder of the team’s last win, which came on Oct. 28.

That win against the Bulls put the Pistons at 2-1, a promising start for a young team in the middle of a rebuild. Then the wheels fell off.

Now, you get to bet on whether those wheels will ever get put back on.

Here are the available bets in DraftKings’ next Pistons regular season win market:

  • Vs. Utah Jazz (Dec. 21): +120
  • At Brooklyn Nets (Dec. 23): +475
  • Vs. Brooklyn Nets (Dec. 26): +500
  • Vs. Toronto Raptors (Dec. 30): +700
  • At Utah Jazz (Jan. 3): +1500
  • At Houston Rockets (Jan. 1): +2200
  • At Boston Celtics (Dec. 28): +2800
  • Vs. San Antonio Spurs (Jan. 10): +2800
  • At Golden State Warriors (Jan. 5): +3000
  • Vs. Sacramento Kings (Jan. 9): +4000
  • Vs. Minnesota Timberwolves (Jan. 17) or later: +5000
  • At Washington Wizards (Jan. 15): +6500
  • At Denver Nuggets (Jan. 7): +7000
  • Vs. Houston Rockets (Jan. 12): +7000
  • Not to win another regular season game in 2023-24: +100000

Betting on Pistons' next win is a difficult proposition

Picking the right game in this market is tricky. You not only have to find a team the Pistons could beat, but also make sure they don’t win a game prior to that happening.

The teams that jump out immediately are the Wizards and Spurs, who themselves have won just four games this season. But they don’t play the Spurs until Jan. 10, meaning the losing streak would have to get to 34 in order for your bet to be alive heading into the game.

If you pick the game against the Wizards, the Pistons would have to lose 12 more games, running their losing streak to 36.

Making those bets is basically betting an 11- or 13-leg parlay.

The best bet might be the least exciting, Thursday’s game against the Jazz. Utah will be on the second night of a back-to-back, as it plays Cleveland Wednesday. The Jazz are 1-3 in such situations this season. They’ve also had their fair share of struggles, with a pair of four-game losing streaks.

But, if you think that’s the game, you may want to simply bet the Pistons moneyline when it’s available – it wasn’t on Wednesday morning – as it could provide more value than +120.

The true mix of value and likelihood in this market is the Raptors on Dec. 30. Toronto has struggled of late, dropping seven of its last 10, and this would also be the back-half of a back-to-back. The Raptors play in Boston the night before travelling to Little Caesars Arena.

Pick: vs. Toronto Raptors (Dec. 30): +700

Could the Pistons be the worst NBA team ever?

If that bet cashes, the Pistons will have set the record for the longest losing streak in NBA history at 28.

At 2-25, they are also on pace to have the worst record in an 82-game NBA season. Their current .074 win percentage would equal a 6-76 final record, which easily breaks the record of 9-73 set by the 1972-73 Philadelphia 76ers.

Sportsbooks don’t think the Pistons will set that mark, as their win total is with heavy juice on the OVER.

But if you think this team could set a new record for futility, betting the UNDER could pay dividends, especially for a Pistons fan suffering through it.
